Project Manager

Hybrid - 3 days per week on site in Downtown Chicago

Duration: Long Term Contract (multi-year) OR Contract to Hire

Required Experience:
  • 5-10 Years of experience as an I.T. Project Manager (ideally enterprise class orgnization experience
  • Strong expeirence with Cloud Migrations
  • In depth experience managing on-prem technologies (mainframe) to AWS
  • 5+ years of expeirenc creating project charters, integrating project plans, resource planning, contingency plans, etc.

Position Description:

This person will be responsible for managing complex and cross-functional projects for the Network Operations Center (NOC). These projects will enable United to deliver tools and technology to our NOC users, primarily those focused on Weight and Balance/Load Planning, Aircraft Routing and ATC/IRROPS application. This work tends to cross many IT and business lines so it requires coordination and influence. More specifically, a large part of this position will be managing the migration of a mainframe system to the Cloud (AWS) and then overseeing its maintenance and support.

Primary Tasks:
  • Direct large-scale, complex projects involving cross-functional teams; including internal teams and third-party vendors
  • Migrate the mainframe systems/applications to AWS/Cloud
  • Status updates: manage communication to all groups including working team, stakeholders, peripheral teams and executive sponsors. Create updates and deliver updates when appropriate
  • Project scope: understand the project ask, dive into root cause including processes and potential business improvements and ensure all stages of project are met (requirements, design, funding, build, etc.)
  • Financials: put together budget, get approvals from business and IT stakeholders, build business case, submit accurate monthly forecasts, manage the budget
  • Project schedule: develop and maintain project schedule. Own the schedule to make sure all relevant teams stay on track
  • Lead a variety of different types of projects including launching new digital products and services, large-scale application development, systems integration, process reengineering, and infrastructure upgrades and deployments
  • Represent the project in various project governance and inter-department forums
  • Define and track project milestones while developing, maintaining, and reporting on an overall integrated delivery plan
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risk to ensure successful completion of project
  • Develop the project charter, integrated project plan, resource plan, contingency plan, and related project management artifacts
  • Willingness to learn about the airline industry
