The Berkeley YMCA is seeking a dynamic and innovative Associate Executive Director to lead staff and develop branch programming to foster wellness and interpersonal connection. Located in the bustling heart of Berkeley, our YMCA serves a uniquely diverse membership. This is a full-time, on-site position with outstanding benefits, and a pay range of $92,800 to $139,200 depending on experience.
As the Associate Executive Director, you'll lead the development, supervision, and coordination of branch programs while promoting membership growth and community engagement. Reporting to the Executive Director, you'll be instrumental in growing programs, enhancing membership engagement, and driving strategic initiatives to increase membership and engagement in the Berkeley community.
The Berkeley YMCA is a true community hub, where people of all ages and backgrounds can swim, exercise, volunteer, and participate in a wide range of programs for youth and adults. The Berkeley YMCA has 8,500 membership households, and is part of the YMCA of the East Bay.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and Manage Staff
Hire, train, supervise and lead staff in Health/Fitness and Membership.
Establish performance standards based on objectives for key staff.
Manage Programs/Services
Plan, review and evaluate services and scheduling related to designated programs and the membership department.
Assist Executive Director in member engagement to ensure that a high performance, member-centric culture of outstanding service is in place, ensure employees are fully onboarded and engaged to serve the members/participants and meet or exceed retention goals.
Develop and maintain positive public relations and provide excellent customer service to all program participants, members, and the community.
Strengthen Membership
Implement Branch Marketing and Membership Retention Program.
Provide leadership with branch-wide promotional efforts and special events.
Assist Association Marketing Director in Membership Marketing campaigns and recruitment of new members.
Promote innovative programs and membership growth.
Manage Budget & Facilities
Develop and manage budgets for all designated areas.
Maintain accurate records for income and expenses for designated areas.
Ensure preventative safety programs, regular facility inspections, maintenance and upkeep of all facility and equipment related to program areas.
Promote Volunteer Engagement
Assist in planning and operations of the annual fundraising campaign.
Recruit, develop, and coordinate volunteer committees as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business administration, human services, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
At least 2 years of successful supervisory and leadership experience, preferably in a similar environment (health/fitness or membership). Demonstrated expertise in fiscal management, staff development, and volunteer engagement.
Ability to work cooperatively in a highly matrixed, team environment to achieve results
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to think conceptually, analyze and solve problems related to membership organizations. Ability to demonstrate assertiveness to manage the scope and diversity of the responsibilities in this role.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other software required for managing members, staff, budgets, and volunteers.
