Fox Valley Memory Project (FVMP) Program Manager (PM)
Overview: The PM will collaborate with other organizations to build communities that welcome, include, and support persons with dementia and those who care for them. The supporting organizations include public libraries, Aging & Disability Resource Centers, memory diagnostic clinics, colleges, and other nonprofits in Calumet, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Winnebago counties.
Responsibilities: The PM will develop and implement various health and social engagement programs for people living with dementia, care partners, care families, and the broader community, including:
Memory Cafés - Currently fourteen per month
Café events that utilize creative engagement to build a social connection between people living with dementia and their care partners. • Coordinating with volunteer facilitators, assisting with the planning process as needed, preparing monthly calendar with café descriptions, leading quarterly facilitators' meeting
Mindworks - Currently, eleven classes per week in seven locations
Classes for people with early to mid-stage dementia providing health-focused and social programming to participants and respite care opportunities for care partners. • Assist Program Coordinators with the planning of programs/activities • Assessment of potential participants and provide registration information • Implement programs/activities as needed • Complete evaluation of programs
On a Positive Note Chorus - Up to six public performances per year
Chorus performances by people living with dementia and their care partners. Rehearsals are held weekly and focus on the magic of music to overcome the barriers of memory loss. • Coordinate with chorus director/volunteers about performances throughout the year
Special Program events - At least two per month
Monthly social events: examples include monthly lunch bunch group, periodic concerts, day-long bus trips to regional destinations, etc. • Planning, implementing, assessing events • Recruiting volunteers and/or supports for the events
Community Education events - Planned throughout the calendar year
Training for businesses, schools, churches, police and emergency personnel, and other community groups on dementia and how to support community members living with memory loss. Purple Angel stickers are awarded to organizations demonstrating their dementia capability. Additional community education may include radio shows, behavioral symptom management training, etc.
In addition to leading the programs mentioned earlier, the PM will: • Supervise six direct staff and up to 50 volunteers to deliver FVMP programs • Assist in volunteer recruitment/retention • Assist in the development of annual organizational goals and long-term strategic planning • Track participant, volunteer, and other data required for governmental, and donor needs • Support fundraising events as may be required • Provide care support techniques to caregivers as needed • Assist in developing community awareness of FVMP support programs • Compile weekly and monthly newsletter information to be sent out electronically and via mail
Travel throughout service area is required.
Candidate qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field, preferred background in recreational therapy, social work, or combination. • Minimum of five years of experience leading social engagement programs for people living with dementia • Positive leadership skills for staff, volunteers, program participants, and caregivers • Working knowledge of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias • Strong writing skills and adept at public speaking • Proven record of achieving goals • Ability to maintain positive relationships and work as a member of a team • Proficient with technology and tracking participant data • Ability to objectively evaluate programs and adjust as necessary • Ability to develop a new social engagement curriculum for people living with dementia
