The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is seeking a talented, mission-driven writer with a passion for economics, public service, and effective storytelling to join our External Affairs team. You will be responsible for creating compelling written content including published articles, web stories, video scripts, e-newsletters, op-eds, and talking points to help inform and educate non-technical audiences and to grow the impact and reputation of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. The ideal candidate will be a fast learner with attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to produce high quality work. You will have a passion for public service and for learning and the ability to translate technical content to non-technical audiences with skill and nuance. This job has no direct reports.

Your Responsibilities:


  • Research, write, and edit high quality content for digital platforms.

  • Develop written content for the Bank's website and outreach associated with media and government relations.

  • Manage writing projects that explain and amplify the Chicago Fed’s work, including working closely with researchers to translate complex economic and policy subjects.

  • Help develop and execute the Bank's content strategy, including building editorial calendars, advancing editorial processes, developing newsletters, and supporting the production of other materials for the department.

  • Collaborate on projects and campaigns that bring together audio and video production, social media, email outreach, and digital design, working closely with content strategists, web developers, editors, designers, project managers, IT staff, and others across the Bank.

  • Align content with the Chicago Fed’s External Affairs strategy and its messaging framework.

  • Assess and advise on best practices for emerging digital communications.

  • As needed, support varied outreach efforts including e-mail newsletters, audio and video production, and media relations through the drafting and distributing of press releases and media advisories.

Your Background:


  • Bachelor's degree or work equivalent in journalism, communications, public relations, digital marketing, or related communications field

  • 4+ years of relevant experience

  • Experience editing and copy editing, working with Chicago Manual of Style guidelines, and shepherding written work through internal review processes

  • Excellent writing and communications skills with the strong understanding of editorial processes

  • Excellent editing skills and attention to detail

  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex subject matter in an understandable and interesting style

  • Understanding of and keen interest in economics, community development, and financial services

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and thrive in a team environment

  • Ability to juggle multiple, simultaneous projects and to meet deadlines consistently

  • Passion for learning, including demonstrated curiosity and resourcefulness

What We Offer: 


  • The expected starting salary range for this position is between $94,300 and $111,500 annually in addition to annual performance-based discretionary bonuses. Final salary and offer will be determined based on the applicant’s relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographic and other market data.

Additional Requirements: 


  • This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days per week in office.
