ANTICIPATED START DATE: Two weeks after candidate identification.

TRAVEL: As required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position


ASRT, Inc. provides scientific, information management, management consulting, bioinformatics, and administrative program support to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other Federal and private sector clients. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases (DFWED), Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB), at the CDC,1600 Clifton Road, Roybal Campus, Atlanta, GA 30329.


SCOPE OF WORK

The Health Communications Specialist I will provide communication support for activities related to fungal diseases within the Mycotic Diseases Branch (MDB).


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with MDB staff and external partners to coordinate messaging, products and other activities.
  • Provide support for national communication and marketing programs, projects or initiatives for various audiences, including demonstration projects.
  • Provide guidance and expertise for developing, testing, and disseminating science- and audience-based products, tools, and messages (i.e., via written, electronic, and audiovisual formats).
  • Provide support for audience research and program evaluation activities for health communication and marketing. Research may include formative, process, and impact evaluation and qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Contribute to the management and oversight of state, regional, or national public health communication and marketing projects and campaigns.
  • Coordinate activities with other management and staff on cross-cutting issues.
  • Provide advice, technical assistance and leadership in planning and developing communication and marketing priorities, campaigns, strategies, and practices for effective communication and marketing directed toward professional and lay audiences, including underserved populations and populations at risk.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings and provide updates on ongoing health communication projects.
Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of work experience in public health or Master's degree with 2+ years of work experience in public health.
  • Knowledge of health communications methods and techniques needed to communicate scientific and/or technical information for publication in scientific journals and/or for peer review.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning, developing, and implementing health communication, social marketing, health literacy (including literacy and numeracy), clear communication and plain language, media outreach, web, social media and evolving technologies, challenges/contests /competitions for public participation, marketing and formative research, and evaluation activities with a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing strategies to utilize electronic health communication and marketing channels to increase the health impact of CDC's science-based health information and interventions.
  • Experience and expertise in supporting activities related to program and project planning, development, implementation, and evaluation;
  • Ability to support audience research; and translate and disseminate science to different audiences using various formats.
  • Experience in serving as a technical resource to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the translation and dissemination of scientific information for an array the MDB cardiovascular health program state based NOFOs.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with the CDC, federal or related public health entities.
  • Specific work or training experience related to fungal diseases.

Language Skills:

  • The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

REQUIREMENT: Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.
