Overview:
Brigham Young University (BYU) is establishing a new medical school dedicated to providing exceptional, Christ-centered medical education. The Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (SADAA) is a pivotal leadership role, reporting directly to the Dean of the School of Medicine. This position oversees the development, implementation, and accreditation of academic programs, ensuring compliance with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) standards and fostering excellence in medical education. The SADAA will play a crucial role in shaping the medical school's academic strategy, supporting faculty and students, and advancing the institution's mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Accreditation Leadership:
Manage the LCME accreditation process, including the preparation of the Data Collection Instrument (DCI), coordination of the self-study task force, and organization of survey visits.
Serve as the primary liaison with the LCME Secretariat and survey team.
Assign and review DCI sections to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
Synthesize narratives into cohesive documents adhering to LCME standards and style guidelines.
Academic Strategy and Leadership:
Provide strategic oversight for all academic programs, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
Lead the development of innovative educational initiatives and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Build programs to enhance teaching quality and foster a vibrant learning environment.
Develop and implement student-related policies and initiatives.
Collaborate with faculty, administration, and students to promote academic excellence and a positive educational culture.
Faculty and Stakeholder Engagement:
Mentor faculty in teaching, curriculum development, and academic leadership.
Develop and manage educational infrastructure to support pathway programs, professional education, and interprofessional education initiatives.
Represent the medical school on academic committees and in partnerships with other BYU colleges and the broader community.
Operational and Fiscal Responsibilities:
Ensure adherence to accreditation standards and external benchmarks for program quality.
Oversee budgets for educational programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Support philanthropy efforts related to academic initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required:
Doctorate in Medicine (MD/DO) or PhD/EdD in a related health or educational field.
5+ years medical education experience
Senior academic leadership experience, commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor or full Professor.
Comprehensive knowledge of LCME accreditation standards, with experience leading accreditation efforts.
Demonstrated excellence in curriculum development, teaching, and mentoring.
Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage complex projects.

Experience in academic healthcare, including interdisciplinary and interprofessional education.
Proven record of strategic planning, philanthropy, and donor engagement.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Advanced degree in medical education, healthcare management, or related fields.
