Our client is seeking a IBM Mainframe Systems Programmer for a remote opportunity.


Role Description


We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior
Mainframe Systems Programmer with a strong focus on ZOS and related products. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can aggressively pursue problem-solving and optimization of software, document their work, and contribute to the overall efficiency of our mainframe environment. • This position is for a mainframe system programmer, not a mainframe application programmer.
• Candidates should have experience installing or upgrading CICS, COBOL, z/OS, or DB2, not just using these products.

Key Responsibilities:
• Install, configure, and maintain the ZOS operating system (preferably ZOS version 2.5 or 3.1) and related software products such as ISPF, JCL, and File Manager.
• Provide support for third-party vendor software installations, including products from Rocket Software, BMC, and other vendors.
• Perform system upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting in a parallel sysplex environment.
• Optimize system performance and ensure efficient capacity planning.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide Level 1 support for all mainframe-related issues.
• Collaborate with other team members to cross-train and share knowledge.


Skills & Requirements


Required Skills and Experience:
• Minimum of 10 years of experience installing and supporting z/OS, CICS, DB2 and related products
• Extensive experience with ZOS operating system Installation and Maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of ISPF, JCL, and File Manager.
• Experience with performance monitoring and capacity planning tools.
• Familiarity with parallel sysplex environments and DB2 data sharing.
• Expertise in ZOS version 2 or later and related products (e.g., ISPF, JCL, SDSF, TSO, JES2, IBM File Manager, Fault Analyzer, SMP/E or z/OSMF, HMC, EREP, ICSF, PR/SM, IBM System Automation).
• Expertise in ZOS performance monitoring products (e.g., IBM RMF, SMF, zPCA, WLM, Allen System Group's TMON for MVS, CICS, DB2, and TCP/IP, z/OS Communication Server, TCP/IP sockets, z/OS Security Server (RACF), zSecure).
• Familiarity with CICS Transaction Server 5.5 and related products, DB2 for z/OS and related products, z/OS Storage Administration and related products, z/OS Infoprint and related reporting software, IBM Content Manager for z/OS, z/OS Connect, IBM mainframe language products, and BMC DEVX Pipeline.


Preferred Skills:
• BMC DEVX Pipeline
• ASG ZEKE, ZARA, ZEBB
• IBM Parallel Sysplex and DB2 Data Sharing
• Experience with CICS, DB2, and storage administration products.
• Knowledge of content management software and ZOS Connect.
• Familiarity with language tools used by application developers.
• Experience with source code management and scheduling software.
