Assistant to the Director of Student Life

Provide administrative support and coordination for the Director of Student Life. Compile information and conduct research; draft communications; plan and implement events; manage the Director's calendar; screen and prioritize inquiries and requests; coordinate logistics and travel arrangements. Assist the Director with meeting preparation by providing detailed agendas and background materials, perform note taking at meetings; provide project support for departmental, divisional and institutional initiatives; collaborate with the department Leadership Team on strategic initiatives and assessment of department-wide projects; and provide general administrative support. As a primary point of contact within Student Life on behalf of the Director, exhibit sensitivity, professionalism, and confidentiality when responding to email, telephone, chat, and in-person inquiries from all stakeholders (students, families, academic and administrative collaborators, and external entities), and provide detailed information and referrals across a wide range of topics. Design and coordinate processes that aid effective department operations and improve efficiency.
Reports to the Director of Student Life and works closely with the Student Life Leadership Team and other members in the Department of Student Life.
Support the mission, philosophies, and priorities of the Department of Student Life, Division of Student Affairs (DOSA), and UVM, including the promotion of an inclusive and engaged experience for students and staff of all races, ethnicities, religions, national origins, genders, sexual orientations, abilities and ages.
Associate's degree in relevant field (or equivalent experience) and two years' relevant professional experience. Resourcefulness, sensitivity, flexibility, and attention to detail. Effective administrative, time management, and communication skills. Must possess multicultural humility and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment. Proficiency in Microsoft productivity tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and a demonstrated ability to learn new applications (e.g. Drupal, Adobe Acrobat, Slate).
Experience working within higher education or with students. Event planning experience is desirable.
$23.50-$25.65/hr
