he position is for an established investigator at the Associate or Professor level, commensurate with experience. The candidate should have a solid background in fundamental radiation and molecular biology. Established expertise in radiation fractionation, radiation repair, drug delivery and/or targeted therapy, and translational research is desired. The position entails teaching at the graduate level, maintaining an active research program that will attract extramural funding, collaboration with faculty and trainees on projects, grants and papers, and supporting administrative needs in the department, cancer center, and medical center. The candidate will be expected to run the radiobiology course for our clinical and physics trainees . The position also involves oversight of the department of radiation oncology laboratory space, equipment and laboratory practice policies. The candidate will report to the chair of the department.
Key Areas of Responsibility
The candidate will:
* Conduct high impact scientific investigations and forge collaborative relationships in order to elevate the research undertaken;
* Explore and develop appropriate research collaborations both within and outside of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine departments and schools;
* Publish scientific papers of significant impact;
* Aggressively seek extramural funding.
* Supervise, mentor and manage junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students engaged in collaborative research projects;
* Manage the daily operations of his/her lab and oversee the department research space;
* Participate in departament research meetings and retreats;
Qualifications
The recruitment is for a research faculty member in radiation oncology with: * A Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with proven ex[erience and success in genetics, biology (emphasis on radiation biology), molecular biology, or equivalent area;
* Expertise in fundamental radiation biology;
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of a wide array of scientific techniques;
* Demonstrated experience in running a laboratory, funded research projects, and supervision of junior faculty and post-docs;
* An interest in providing mentorship to trainees and junior faculty;
* Strong written and oral communication skills;
* Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative research projects and contribute towards the making of scientific advances in the field of work;
* The ability and drive to submit grant applications and to participate in team science projects.
* The willingness to participate in culture initiatives to further support a collegial, respectful, and collaborative working environment free from bias and prejudice.
