The Blavatnik Fellowship in Life Science Entrepreneurship offers Harvard Business School (HBS) alumni and Harvard-affiliated postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to advance new ventures around promising life science technologies and develop their leadership talents during a 12-month fellowship program. This unique opportunity allows fellows to work closely with leading biotech industry and biomedical authorities, receive programmatic guidance and mentorship, and join a community of entrepreneurs shaping the future of science.

Position Description

Fellows act as entrepreneurs-in-residence, supported by the HBS Health Care Initiative and mentored by a community of business and science leaders in the Boston biopharma and health technology communities, as they complete business plans, secure funding, and develop or join founding teams of new ventures.

The Pagliuca Harvard Life Lab is the hub of the fellowship where fellows are an integral part of the life science startup community and have access to workspace and the Blavatnik wet bench.

Professional development components of the program provide education, skills, and cohort community building through attendance at in-person and virtual workshops, fireside chats, and meetings.

This role is responsible for other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Harvard Business School MBA required
  • Postdoctoral researchers within the first 5 years of receiving their Ph.D. working with an associated Harvard institution.


Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Strong interest in pursuing careers in biomedical leadership and/or entrepreneurship.
  • Fellowships will be awarded to 5 exceptional individuals each year.


Additional Information

This position is approved for a 1-year term which begins on the person's first day of employment.

This role has the possibility of being remote or hybrid. We consider hybrid to be a combination of remote and onsite work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Remote work may be considered for individuals living at least 100-mile radius from campus and where all work will be completed within a state that Harvard is registered to do business in (CA - exempt roles only, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT or WA). Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.
