The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Urology, is looking for a visiting scholar in the appointment stream. This candidate will be doing research regarding the mechanisms of androgen action in two major prostatic diseases, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer. One specific research question will be why androgens stimulate the growth of BPH, but not the normal prostate. This research will involve primary prostatic cells and established prostatic cell lines as well as patient-derived explants. They will also use real-time PCR and western blot to determine the expression of genes regulated by androgens. In addition, they will be working with other lab personnel to investigate the role and regulation of androgen receptors in both benign and malignant prostatic cells.
Minimum Education: The Visiting Scholar should have an M.D. or Ph.D. degree in Urology or relevant research
