As we look forward to 2025, Channing House is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead our team by managing the day-to-day operations for all levels of living (Residential Living, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing), expanding programs and services in all levels of living, and contributing to our goal of being a role model in the field of Aging Services. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Channing House, you will lead the team in promoting a healthy and vibrant home for our residents while guiding and supporting our dedicated and talented staff, who perform meaningful work every day.
As a key member of the Executive Team, our Chief Operating Officer (COO) will establish program goals and objectives consistent with our mission. You will serve as a primary point of contact for our residents, resident families and resident committees. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) will lead strategic and operational efficiencies for our programs and team and actively support efforts to achieve the Board's strategic goals for Channing House.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Establish program goals and objectives aligned with the Mission Statement and Core Values as part of the Executive Team.
Lead the development of new programs and services, which may include expanding memory support services, adding dining venues, enhancing wellness programming.
Continuously assess and improve organizational processes, services, and amenities to meet resident expectations and budgetary requirements.
Lead special projects and long-term planning for physical operations in collaboration with the CEO, supporting Board strategic goals.
Provide leadership and mentorship to management and staff, fostering professional development and high-functioning teams.
Ensure that you and/or your team respond in a timely manner to any questions/concerns raised by residents, resident families, and resident committees.
Act on behalf of the CEO in their absence, lead risk management initiatives with the CFO, and serve as Incident Commander in emergencies.
Collaborate with the CFO to lead departmental budget development, ensure budgeted operations are achieved, and address variances as needed.
Work with the CFO to meet community occupancy goals by managing prompt residence turnovers and transitions between levels of living.
Provide supervision and training for Administrator in Training (AIT). (Preceptor is not required.)
While our AIT is in training,
Serve as the point of contact for regulatory agencies including CDPH and CDSS.
Ensure that survey preparations, audits, and plans of correction are executed as needed.
Oversee the development of policies and procedures to maintain regulatory compliance and senior living best practices.
Manage quality improvement programs across all levels of care.
Stay current with industry changes by attending workshops and seminars, maintaining professional status and building relationships with similar organizations.
Interpret policies and procedures for employees, residents, families, visitors, and government agencies.
Directly supervise the following departments: Nursing Services, Medical Director, Dining Services, Facilities & Renovations, Housekeeping, Concierge Services (Reception, Transportation), and Resident Services (Fitness, Wellness, Social Services).
Manage recruitment, training, development, delegation, and performance management of staff, including promotions, demotions, transfers, salary reviews, and terminations.
Lead by example with positivity, teamwork, professionalism, and accountability while driving quality improvement.
Required Skills and Qualifications are:
Must be certified as an RCFE administrator in California, or able to obtain certification within three (3) months of employment.
Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) in California is preferred, but not required.
Must have a bachelor's degree and five (5) or more years of management experience in a related field. Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
Must be knowledgeable of Title 22 and policies and procedures related to residential care facilities for the elderly (RCFEs).
Knowledge of Title 22 related to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) is preferred, but not required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.
Comfortable with personal computers, software (including EMR), and networked systems
