Our client currently has $2bn+ AUM with a fresh $700mn just fundraised and ~40 exits (M&A and IPO) to date. They're looking to add an (Senior) Associate to the team in the Bay Area with direct exposure to several seasoned investors.
They consider their investment mandate "venture growth" and look for commercial stage investments, where their capital is primarily directed towards growing revenues and scaling the company. They invest in innovation broadly across the healthcare spectrum: medical devices and technologies, diagnostics, research tools, digital health, healthcare IT, and innovative services. They typically invest $15-50mn per company with an ability to invest up to $100mn over time, prefer to lead investments, and have the ability to syndicate.
The background of the team is impressive (ex Sofinnova, OrbiMed Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Blackstone Life Sciences, KCK Group, KKR, etc.) with the Board of Advisors holding c-suite positions from Proctor & Gamble, Humana, Johnson & Johnson, Becton Dickinson, Medtronic, CVS, LabCorp and a former U.S. Surgeon General to name a few.
This role is an opportunity for the candidate to work on an exceptional investment team to execute investment decisions and strategy, advise existing portfolio companies on route-to-market and commercialization strategies, and originate and develop new theses to help shape the future of healthcare technology innovation. This is a career-track position and you'll get exposure to founders, entrepreneurs, and co-investors with expectations to take on Board seats in due time.
The role is designed to increase responsibilities over time with a growing team.
Responsibilities
Develop and support near and long-term investment thesis development for select opportunity areas of interest
Become an expert in novel and emerging business models, the healthcare regulatory landscape, and technology areas of interest
Identify and interview industry subject matter experts, key opinion leaders, physicians, and management from early-stage companies - and use this external network to diligence new opportunities and support portfolio companies
Stay current on key trends in healthcare technology and represent the fund at industry conferences
Complete detailed quantitative assessments, including market sizing, and building and analyzing financial models
Complete detailed qualitative assessments, including customer discovery interviews, market mapping, and industry analysis
Qualifications
Experience in healthcare investing, operating experience, clinical backgrounds, investment banking or management consulting.
A knowledge and passion for the early-stage healthcare ecosystem
Interest in partnering with and supporting early-stage entrepreneurs and portfolio companies
Strong writing skills and a well-developed understanding of financial concepts and modeling skills
