Job Description:

The Quality Engineer, located in Torrance CA, will support company-wide AMS Group, Inc. quality activities in coordination with the Quality Manager. This position is responsible for ensuring the delivery of quality products at the Company's Torrance, CA facility, supporting manufacturing operations under the direction of the Director of Core Programs. This role will heavily focus on helping manufacturing and kitting operations (70%) and supporting QMS compliance, change management, and improvement (30 %).

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Perform in-process, receiving, testing (as applicable) and source inspections of Torrance CA facility, and other AMS Group divisions, supplier orders for approval or identify of non-conformances. If identified as a non-conforming product, apply problem solving methodologies (e.g. 5WHY; IS-IS Not; Fishbone; etc.) and manage the process lifecycle to identify the supplier non-conformance root cause and action to prevent it's recurrence.
  • Manage Torrance CA facility customer complaints by verifying complaint validity and the associated process lifecycle for the supplier to rework or replace the product if determined to be non-conforming. Work collaboratively with Engineering stakeholders to review, approve and perform oversight of supplier recovery plans to deliver conforming product.
  • Maintain Torrance CA facility Contract Quality Issue Log and update facility leadership.
  • Oversee Torrance CA facility maintenance of measurement devices and ensure that their calibration schedules are maintained for accuracy and compliance.
  • Ensure that Torrance CA facility specific Quality Management System (QMS) processes, procedures, and work instructions are maintained, and continuous improvement is implemented for employees to successfully deliver quality products and services to customers. Manage Torrance CA facility QMS Corrective Action (CAR) root cause process. Perform and manage Torrance CA facility internal quality audits.
  • Populate customer solicited quality related forms to support Torrance CA facility registrations to support new business opportunities.
  • Support Quality Manager with associated Torrance CA facility quality certifications through accredited 3rd party quality management system registrations and standards compliance.
  • Travel to perform various customer and supplier quality functional activities such as First Article Inspections, supplier audits, supplier source inspections, etc. in support of AMS Group needs (estimated <25 percent).

Quality Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate Torrance CA facility organizational, customer and supplier performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Ensure effective and open communication of information within and across all levels of the Torrance CA facility organization.

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Excellent people, organizational and people skills.
  • Experience in working within an ERP.
  • Extensive knowledge of AS9100 requirements and its application in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with IPC-J-STD-001 and/or IPC WHMA-A-620 (desirable but not required).
  • Prior experience with interfacing with DCMA/US Government around Government source inspections, Government QA Audits (desirable but not required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and use of problem-solving tools such as 5Y, 8D, etc. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience with auditing and management of audit programs
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations with customers and suppliers including conflict resolution.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and associated technical data package documentation to include test procedures.
  • Understanding of fundamental measurement techniques, measurement devices and calibration requirements.
  • Minimum of a four-year bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from an accredited college or university in business/management, supply chain, engineering, or other related degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in a manufacturing environment performing as a quality engineer, supplier quality engineer or quality manager.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and associated technical data package documentation to include test procedures.
  • Knowledge of measurement techniques, measurement devices and calibration methods.
  • Minimum of a Minimum High School diploma
