Kinder Morgan is one of countries largest midstream infrastructure companies in the United States with over 79,000 miles of pipelines that transports over 40 percent of all natural gas consumed in the United States. As a member of the Kinder Morgan Tax Department, you will be part of a team of tax professionals responsible for all aspects of the company's tax posture. A Kinder Morgan Senior Tax Analyst will be asked to perform the following job functions:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Preparation of the following types of federal tax returns with specific emphasis on the following:
Analyze tax sensitive general ledger accounts, calculate and document book-tax differences,
Analyze different components of the fixed asset process for depreciation, tax gains and losses, and
Prepare the required statement and elections otherwise includable in the federal income tax return.
Preparation of state income and franchise tax returns with specific emphasis on the following:
Exposure to unitary, nexus combined, and separate company state income tax and apportionment computations,
Exposure to state franchise tax computations and issues, and
Preparation of federal and state estimated payments and extensions
Preparation of tax basis balance sheets
Assembling documentation used in state income and franchise tax audits
Assist with preparation of ASC 740 documentation and calculation of federal and state income tax provision
Research of federal and state tax technical issues
Respond to notices from federal and state taxing authorities
Position Requirements
Prospective job candidates will possess the following characteristics:
Minimum Job Requirements Competencies, skills and abilities:
Previous experience/familiarity with federal and state tax consolidations
Previous experience with the ONESOURCE tax preparation software, Adobe PDF, and PowerTax
Familiarity with Checkpoint research platform
Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, including advanced functionality
Knowledge of mid-stream oil and gas operations
Excellent time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to work independently and complete job responsibilities with minimal supervision
Strong organizational skills
Solid analytical skills and decision-making ability,
Individual must be highly motivated and be able to research problems and recommend solutions
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Capacity to embrace a team environment, demonstrate a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Experience
Five or more years of experience at a public accounting firm or comparable experience working for a large corporate tax department
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Certified Public Accountant Preferred
