The Medtronic Diabetes R&D team contributes directly to this mission; we deliver software and firmware for Medtronic's diabetes Care Products. InPen™ is the first and only FDA-cleared smart pen for insulin delivery. InPen was developed to address many of the issues both Healthcare Professionals and those living with diabetes face on a daily basis.

We are looking for a talented Sr. Software Embedded Test Engineer to join our organization as we develop safety critical software for medical devices that hundreds of thousands of people around the world depend on daily. You will work with a world-class team to meet users' needs by developing innovative solutions and bringing them to market and will directly contribute to Medtronic's mission to Alleviate Pain, Restore Health, and Extend Life.

** This position is onsite in San Diego, CA (hybrid)

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned


  • Design, implement, and optimize automation test frameworks to verify embedded software for inpen

  • Test using HIL , simulators, and emulators for embedded software testing

  • Have a hands-on experience and deep understanding in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) testing

  • Develop automation scripts using some of the following languages, for example: C/C++, Javascript, or Python

  • Work closely with software development, product engineering, product marketing, quality and the systems teams to ensure the product works as expected from end-to-end, both pre- and post-release

  • Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards for software systems quality operating methods, processes, and procedures

  • Conducts evaluation of software systems activities including requirements, design, development, documentation, integration, test, verification and validation

  • Reviews software systems design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements

  • Reviews include applicable specifications, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies

  • Perform root cause analysis for defects

  • Designs, develops, debugs, and implements software test frameworks and test scripts

  • Determines required level of testing based on software requirements

  • Develop test plans and protocols in accordance with regulatory environments

  • Partner with software development as part of sprint development

  • Coordinate test activities with our vendor partners

  • Work in an agile/scrum environment

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering or Sciences field

  • 4+ years of experience for embedded software testing with a bachelor's degree

  • Or, 2+ years of experience with a master's degree

Nice to Have:


  • Experience working in the Medical Device industry

  • Experience developing test frameworks for embedded products

  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$98,400.00 - $147,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
