Job Summary The Section of Clinical Sciences in the Division of Rheumatology seeks a highly motivated Health Data Scientist to be a lead analyst on an infrastructure effort enabling a department-wide electronic health record-based research. The Associate will work closely with Principal Investigators, database administrators, data managers, and potential collaborators to support the department in collecting, organizing, retrieving, tracking, analyzing data related to a new effort to establish a bioinformatics platform. The Associate will be part of a team that studies large multi-institutional health datasets to infer new approaches to determine disease risk, diagnosis, and management. They will contribute to data infrastructure including database development, recoding data, the application of data ontologies, data harmonization, and natural language processing of free text health record data among other tasks. Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities
Confirms project requirements by studying user requirements; conferring with others on project team.
Works closely with investigators to meet requests in a timely manner.
Develop recording systems assuring that the flow of data is tracked in an accurate and timely fashion.
Develops, maintains, and improves MS Access databases for research projects in consultation with researchers.
Documents all aspects of data management, such as database structure and related data cleaning procedures. Maintains data dictionary and metadata.
Meeting and working closely with other staff members and attending larger study and staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Interest in learning the process of ethics review of human subjects research, and preparation of IRB protocols.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science or related degree and or related field and 2 years of work experience required.
Experience writing and editing complex SQL scripts and stored procedures is essential.
Experience working with MS SQL Server, Excel and ACCESS
Previous experience in research is preferred.
Skills, Abilities, Competencies Required
Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with persons of all levels.
(SQL) and (Python or another general programming) is required.
Data management skills, including the creation, modification and merging of computerized databases in a variety of studies is required.
Knowledge of medical and analytical terminology.
Knowledge of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics.
Must be able to prioritize and organize work responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.
Must possess a great deal of integrity to maintain confidentiality. Must demonstrate accuracy in maintaining data.
Must be able to make independent judgments under general supervision for the above-mentioned job duties and responsibilities.
Knowledge of Java programming language or similar preferred but not required.
Experience with database ETL preferred but not required.
