The Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) serves as the catalyst for enhancing the quality of the undergraduate student experience while promoting on-time graduation for all undergraduate students at IU Indianapolis. 3 units report up to the DUE: University College, Honors College and the Institute for Engaged Learning.


The Office of Communications and Digital Strategy serves as the central communications team for the Division of Undergraduate Education, providing marketing and communication leadership, strategy, services, and education to division stakeholders.



Job Summary



The Division of Undergraduate Education is seeking a Residential and Student Engagement Coordinator for the Groups Scholars Program.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Oversees all residential components of the Groups Summer Experience for entering program scholars, including the coordination of housing, student engagement activities, and programming that fosters a strong sense of community among students.

  • Manages the Groups Scholars Living Learning Community (LLC), working closely with Housing and Residence Life staff to create a cohesive, supportive residential environment that aligns with the program's goals for academic success, personal development, and student engagement.

  • Supports the promotion of the Groups Scholars Program, including participation in outreach and recruitment activities aimed at prospective students, families, and high schools.

  • Assists with the recruitment, selection, and transition of Groups Scholars into the program and IU Indianapolis by organizing and facilitating orientation sessions, admissions activities, and other initiatives designed to ensure a smooth transition into college life.

  • Develops and implements student engagement activities, workshops, and events during both the Groups Summer Experience and academic year that promote leadership, wellness, academic success, and a sense of belonging for Groups Scholars.

  • Supervises residential mentors and program assistants, providing training, guidance, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality support for students and an inclusive living environment.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for residential students during the Groups Summer Experience and throughout the academic year, addressing student concerns and providing ongoing support and resources.

  • Collaborates with academic advisors, faculty, and campus partners to integrate academic support services, tutoring, and mentoring opportunities into the residential experience.

  • Develops programming that reflects the unique needs of first-generation, underrepresented students, with an emphasis on building community and fostering retention.

  • Provides crisis management and conflict resolution for Groups Scholars in residence, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive living environment.

  • Collects and analyzes data on student engagement, participation, and satisfaction, and use this information to improve residential and engagement experiences for Groups Scholars.

  • Works with the Director of the Groups Scholars Program to ensure that residential life and student engagement initiatives are aligned with the overall goals of the program and IU Indianapolis' mission to support student success.

  • Reports to the Director of the Groups Scholars Program.

General Responsibilities


  • Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.

  • Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting one-on-one to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.

  • Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.

  • Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.

  • Serves on committees and performs student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.

  • Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.

  • May provide guidance to other student support staff; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or related field


Preferred



  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or related field


Preferred



  • 2 years of experience in residential life, student engagement, or a related area, preferably in a higher education setting working with first-generation, underrepresented student populations

  • 2 years of experience in supervising student staff and providing crisis management in a residential setting; working in a Living Learning Community or similar residential program designed to support underrepresented students.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.


Requires on-call responsibilities during the Groups Summer Experience and occasional evening and weekend work during the academic year to support student programming.
