Business Development Operations Specialist

The Business Development Operations Specialist is a hybrid role built predominantly around sales growth while also providing sales-operations efficiency. Responsible for closing the loop developing and securing new product specifications, primarily within the commercial design community which includes architects, designers, Acousticians and the design-build audience. Selling activities include extensive product education explaining not only features, benefits, and applications for products, but how each product can satisfy the application needs of specifiers on particular projects. The ability to build and maintain relationships within the specification community is critical. As part of the company’s growth initiatives, this person will play a key role in identifying and establishing new distributors, dealers, and OEM accounts. In addition, the BDM will manage the performance of our existing channel partners within their area of responsibility to ensure that they achieve their quarterly objectives. Sales-Operations activities will ensure proper communications between sales and operations departments while also providing opportunities for improvement. This individual will also actively participate in the planning and execution of company marketing activities providing vital input based on interactions with prospects and customers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a sales pipeline - develop, qualify, and track opportunities.
  • Demonstrate the value of products with professional communication through consistent electronic and face-to-face contact with these constituencies.
  • Work with Operations Team to increase customer satisfaction and reduce costs to meet or exceed expected margins.
  • Develop and document workflow policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Bridge the gap between sales and operations to understand operations resources, capacity, and demand to provide current sales lead time and customer expectations
  • Work alongside Production Manager to monitor schedule for on-time execution, identifying, and mitigating any potential lead time issues. If issues cannot be resolved, provide timely communication to the appropriate parties, including actions being taken to minimize impact.
  • Work collaboratively with the cross-functional teams to determine appropriate commitments and schedules and deliver order status reports for selected customers.
  • Monitor special order material shipment and due dates to ensure on-time execution or early notification to customer of delays. Work in conjunction with other departments to resolve issues and offer alternative scheduling.
  • Develop, foster, and build strong relationships to strengthen and build the brand.
  • Conduct online product knowledge sessions with customers for all products (invite multi-line sales managers whenever possible or as warranted).
  • Manage and actively participate in project tracking.
  • Collaborate with sales representatives, and marketing to maximize results.
  • Active participation in industry-related associations to strengthen client relationships.
  • Collaborate with appropriate team members and management to determine necessary strategic sales approaches.
  • Must be proficient in digital communication and tools.
  • Ability to communicate well in digital/virtual environments as well as oral and written formats with all levels of our organization and our customers.
  • Knowledge of the complete product line, its applications, and performance
  • Experience with marketing, sales, and specification principles
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and the progression of project stages
  • Ability to make professional presentations.
  • Ability to sell products and concepts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/Design/Business Administration or a closely related field.
  • 3-5 years managing product-based sales through distributors, dealers, or a commissioned rep network.
  • 3-5 years of business development experience in the commercial architectural products or construction industry.
