Job Description:

The Senior Accountant is a multifaceted position encompassing a diverse cross section of Business Office functions including financial accounting, analysis, reconciliation, compliance, and back office support for student accounts receivable. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized self-starter with a strong background in accounting or related field, strong attention to detail, exceptional analytical and problem solving, deadline driven and will have an advanced knowledge of excel. The Senior Accountant reports to the Senior Director of Finance and Budgets.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accounting:

  • Responsible for performing accounting functions including but not limited to preparation and posting of journal entries, tracking GL activity, account reconciliation, account analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure bank statements are reconciled to the GL and variances are resolved timely.
  • Assist with the fiscal year end activities and closing processes in addition to fulfilling various audit requests.
  • Prepare timely submission of annual tax reporting, including 1098-T and 1099 forms.
  • Subject matter expert and point person for accounting systems and processes.
  • Provide guidance to accounting staff and assist in resolving issues.
  • Develop and maintain queries in various systems.
  • Identify process improvements and implement thoughtful and creative solutions.
  • Oversee special projects.
  • Perform post-award grant administration and finance functions.
  • Assist with the preparation and analysis of budget reports.
  • Crosstrain with other functions within the Business Office.

Accounts Receivable:

  • Maintain student accounts receivable parameters within accounting system to ensure accurate billing.
  • Gain a comprehensive expertise in the AR billing system, becoming the go-to person for related knowledge.
  • Identify and resolve student billing discrepancies.
  • Process weekly student refund vouchers ensuring compliance with federal guidelines.
  • Prepare and analyze receivables reports to ensure timeliness of payments and collections.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or comparable field required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a professional Business Office environment including hands on accounting experience.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong accounting, mathematical, and reconciliation skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Flexible, team player, self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and competing priorities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with higher education accounts receivable.
  • Experience with integrated computerized accounting systems a plus, i.e. Ellucian Colleague and MMARS.
  • Experience writing and modifying queries to pull data from various systems. Examples may include Business Objects, CROA, and Microsoft Access.
  • Experience with Higher Education principles, practices, procedures and Federal and State regulations.
  • Experience collaborating effectively across all levels of the institution.
  • Consideration for Master's Degree or CPA.

Salary: $80,000 - $85,000 Annually
