Who are we looking for?

MAES is looking for an Applications Manager based in Piscataway, (NJ, USA) the candidate will be working within a global team of R&D scientists and Applications Engineers and in coordination with Global Business Development Leaders, Account managers, and Technical Development partners. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing Applications Development Projects related to Semiconductor Assembly and managing daily operations for the Power Electronics Applications Laboratory.

What will you be doing?

  • In this role, you will be expected to add value through coaching based management. You will be expected to lead a small group of engineers and work strategically to develop the capacities and capabilities of the team members.
  • Latitude to understand the value in use of MacDermid Alpha´s array of products and their application in different processes involved in Semiconductor Assembly is a must. Being part of a global team of experts, you will ultimately be a key contributor to qualify our products in the most demanding applications.
  • The role requires you to work both on strategic goals as well as Account specific Customer Applications projects. Local Semiconductor Assembly application development activities are often complemented by the Global project teams, and you will be responsible to work effectively in this global platform.
  • As an R&D Applications manager, you will be responsible for running and driving to completion Applications Development Projects supported in our New Jersey Piscataway Laboratory on budget and on time, and according to specific international standards.
  • Budgeting, reporting, participation in Technical Workshops, management of direct reports, technical report reviewing and equipment maintenance oversight fall within the scope of this position.

Who are You?

  • The position will require direct oversight of a small group of Applications Engineers and will report to the Director of R&D Applications for Semiconductor Assembly.
  • A master's degree in mechanical engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering or other related technical discipline is required. A PhD Degree is considered an asset. A candidate with proven extensive industrial experience in the field of electronics can be considered to have academic equivalence.
  • The candidate should be capable to manage complex projects and be able to employ different management concepts. Experience with Project Management methods (PMP/CSM/CPMP/TüV or similar) are considered an asset.
  • Experience in management of Technology-Oriented Projects and/or work experience in the field of Electronics Assembly is necessary.
  • The candidate should have a hands-on aptitude, with eagerness to learn new processes and technology concepts and be able to further their potential together with willingness to cover for colleagues when needed.
  • Bottom-line oriented, a team player who can operate within a high-performance cross-cultural team.
  • Customer-needs understanding, committed to quality service and continuous improvement.
  • Confident and having a purposeful approach, paired with strong communication skills and social skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and preferably a second language.
  • Skilled with the standard office software including Microsoft Office, Excel, Visio, MS Projects, Minitab and similar.
  • Willing to occasionally travel and build strong international relationships with customers and collaborating equipment manufacturers, less than 15% for domestic and overseas.

What competencies will you need?

  • Supervise the local Semiconductor Assembly applications technical team and act as a mentor, assign responsibilities and empower to further their learning and employ effective project management practices themselves.
  • Overall regional responsibility for preparation of method statements and execution of internal and external projects related to the development of Electronics Assembly Solutions with a focus on Isolated Power Electronic systems and Discrete packages.
  • Support publication of technical papers and presentations on project topics; support submission of abstracts in anticipation of results so information is published in a timely manner.
  • Work directly with Americas Business Development team to define and conduct customer support activities within the laboratory and in the field.
  • Work closely with Americas Account managers to capture Voice of Customer input and help management to identify trends, key opportunities, and technical development direction.
  • Work closely with Business Unit Project Managers, Product Managers, as well as Manufacturing and Quality to ensure continuous alignment and up-to-date information flow.
  • Fully support the materials Research and Development group and own the local support activities for Technology Development Programs and New Product Development projects.
  • Carry out cost, time and resource planning for Customer Applications projects. Work with local leaders to define schedules, track operational activities, and making sure of highest equipment occupancy together with project turnover.
  • Work on a global level with other R&D Applications leaders (Europe, SE Asia, China, Japan)
  • Responsibility for upkeep overview of assigned Laboratories, including maintenance of assembly and testing equipment used for applications support in Semiconductor Assembly
