The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University's Institute for Quantitative Social Science (IQSS) is seeking applications for an Associate Director for Impact. The Associate Director will be responsible for scaling strategic initiatives of the program, leveraging external partnerships, deploying communications strategies, supporting development work, and supporting program leadership. The Associate Director for Impact at the Human Flourishing Program will oversee all aspects of the Program's impact, dissemination and public engagement work. The Associate Director of Impact will seek to bring the Program's research and resources, as well as that of others, to numerous sectors of society - education, business, medicine, policy, religious communities - to promote flourishing and character development. The position will report to the Executive Director of the Human Flourishing Program (primary) and the Human Flourishing Program Faculty Director, Professor Tyler VanderWeele (secondary).
Position Description
Program Oversight
Collaborate with the Faculty Director and Executive Director in shaping the public perception of the program's mission.
Supervise all Research Associates and Postdoctoral fellows in implementation of Program communications strategy and opportunities.
Drive topline impact and dissemination strategy for the program.
Public Relations and Communications
Oversee design and create the development and implementation of communications strategy for the Human Flourishing Program.
Collaborate and regularly meet with business and civic leaders and strategic partners in business, medicine, education, and government and manage these relations (e.g. Delta Airlines, Tennessee Health Commissioner, OECD, etc.).
Work with Program Impact Strategist Consultants on strategy and implementation of dissemination of Program research, content, and communications.
Oversee Program student engagement and Research Associate and Postdoctoral Fellow teaching and student formation activities.
Oversee the Program website and social media accounts and direct and manage implementation.
Represent the Program at meetings and conferences (OECD on well-being conference in the policy space, State of TN is hosting 2 day workshop on evaluation of social programming).
Conferences and Events
Oversee and manage the Program Manager on conference and event creation, communications, planning, scheduling, and invitations.
Oversee Program Manager's work to serve as on-site coordinator for Program-hosted events, workshops, and conferences.
Development and Finance
Identify and pursue new donors, create opportunities for unrestricted giving, broaden and build network of program stakeholders.
Support communications and meetings with Program donors in collaboration with Program leadership.
Identify and meet with new potential donors and develop and support opportunities.
Support the Executive Director and Faculty Director on the creation of development reports and fundraising materials.
Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to assist with and independently lead initiatives in financial modeling, developing sustainable funding strategies, initiating contracts, and liaising with the Business Operations team at IQSS on contract terms and implementation.
Frequently seek out possible grant opportunities and work on developing grant applications independently or in conjunction with the Executive Director and Faculty Director.
Conduct due diligence for development projects. Regularly assess and update financial projections in partnerships with IQSS financial associates and analyze funding sources for long-term viability. Evaluate potential partnerships to support the organization's growth objectives.
Impact and Dissemination
Build and execute public impact and dissemination campaigns that will scale the reach and impact of the Human Flourishing Program and promote flourishing in society.
Broaden and build on the Human Flourishing Program Network to create and maintain steady dissemination of opportunity referrals.
Build and maintain engagement model for working with various clients and stakeholders.
Establish mechanisms to measure the adoption and use of Program research.
Research and Education
Oversee the design and building of novel educational products for the implementation of program research, education of stakeholders, and increased public awareness.
Work as editor for public facing written materials such as op-eds, brochures, and books.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
6+ years of progressive administrative management experience
Supervisory experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the program, background or coursework in the social sciences and/or in philosophy or theology is desirable, but not necessary.
Demonstrated administration or program management experience within higher-education, non-profit, or business sector.
Ability to operate independently with a strong sense of self-management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Some travel is required (5-10%): Local, Out-of-State, International
