As an experienced Engineer with Manitowoc Cranes, you’ll work with a team to design, implement, and revise embedded C and Simulink software to meet product requirements. In the concept phase the candidate will be writing specifications based on information from other engineers on the product development team and product specifications. During the detailed design phase of projects, you will be implementing and testing control software. This testing is done statically, on test benches, and on cranes. As needed, engineers will support with product service, and production. This position reports to the Sr. Engineering Manager and sits in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop concept sketches, layouts, and specification documents.
Writing and testing embedded control software on test benches and on crane.
Assignments may involve new product design, product improvements, test, analysis, production liaison and service liaison utilizing a variety of engineering disciplines
Responsibilities include understanding structural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and/or control system design
Prepare basic analysis, test, performance, schedule, and cost information as required in assigned area of responsibility
Prepare and report on progress, feasibility, and concept studies, etc. as required
Oversee work of test engineers as needed
Assist other departments in preparation of manuals and sales literature on assigned projects
Maintain close contact and coordinate activities with other groups within the Product Engineering department
Ability to perform job functions in a safe manner, successfully complete all safety training required by the time constraints set by governmental regulations
Ability to wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required, by company policy, for the job being performed
Required Skills/Abilities:
Must have experience in embedded programming in C and Simulink
Must have experience designing control or courses in control theory.

Required Education and Experience:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or Electrical Mechanical Engineering
Must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in engineering.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience with CANOpen and J9139 serial communication
Experience with Functional Safety design according to ISO26262, and EN13849
Willing to take more classes and training in control theory
Physical Requirements:
Physical activities include typing, walking around a factory setting, and climbing on cranes.
Must be capable of working on a job site or production factory environment
Must be able to work in hot, cold, wet, dry, etc. environments/weather for a brief period of time.
Must be able to climb a ladder to the height of 12 ft.
Health and Safety:
Maintain departmental housekeeping and 5S standards.
Perform job functions in a safe manner.
Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company Policy for the job being performed both in the facility and during customer visits.
Know and follow established job and facility wide safety and health procedures and rules.

Work Environment:
Engineering Office working with the engineering team
Testing and Developing Controls in the Software lab
Testing and Developing controls on Hardware in the Loop Simulator
Testing and Developing controls on cranes
This position will be required to work outside as needed in various weather conditions (heat, cold, wet, dry, etc)
Travel Required: (Percentage 0-100) International & Domestic 10%
