Child Action, Inc. (CAI) is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking childcare, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support.
We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem-solving skills and have the ability to understand the problems and issues facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities.

Position Purpose & Scope:
Under the direction of the Communications Officer, the Communications Specialist will play a key role in content planning, information delivery, and dynamic storytelling across multiple multimedia platforms. This includes a focus on email marketing, website content, and publications to inform the public, policymakers, and funders about Child Action, Inc.'s programs. The Communications Specialist will have access to our full suite of marketing resources, including generative AI software and graphic design support, and will apply the best practices and current technological tools to their work.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, capable of multitasking, and possess strong collaboration and problem-solving skills. They must be able to understand and articulate the challenges faced by families in need of quality, affordable childcare, as well as the issues encountered by childcare providers from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. This role will work closely with team leads to showcase our organizational work, community impact, and key Child Action, Inc. staff. Clear communication regarding assignments, project updates, and responsiveness to feedback are essential for success in this position.
Typical Duties:
Develop written content for agency, departmental, and advocacy communications, and more specifically:
Develop written content for parents, provider, and campaign communications, including but not limited to drafting targeted emails, website copy, text messages, company publications, and other digital content. This can include, but is not limited to, brochures, advertising copy, blog posts, eBooks, skyscraper content, FAQs, program descriptions, and more.
Conceptualize the Child Action journey of parents and new childcare providers and draft effective communications products, such as emails and text messages, to inform and ease their experience of enrollment, credentialing, and maintenance processes.
Produce short-form and long-form content involving childcare services, resources, workshops, training, and programs. Research and write original content for publications, such as articles, features, news stories, or blog posts. This involves identifying target audience needs, using reliable sources, digging deep into a topic, and aggregating information from various sources to develop a complete picture of a topic.
Optimize the organization's use of our website to tell our story through digital media to reach target audiences, including opinion leaders, reporters, public officials, and members. The Communications Specialist must interact with WordPress to publish their content properly, which requires familiarity with the platform.
Collaborate with subject experts in gathering accurate information, drafting content, and optimizing it with keywords, focusing it on a specific audience or search intent, or broadening it for wider appeal as part of the pre-publication content creation process. Responsible for polishing their content and editing, proofing, and generally polishing other creators' content.
Help develop marketing strategies to promote publications through various channels.
Create visual layouts using design software (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) to effectively arrange text, images, and graphics. Knowledge of typography and layout principles is required.
Must have experience managing online publishing platforms, coordinating content for websites and digital publications, and managing publication timelines and deadlines.
Coordinate with contributors, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth production.
Develop and maintain an informed awareness of topics of interest to Child Action, Inc. to most effectively carry out duties.
Provide cross-functional support for all communications needs.
Stay current with industry's best practices.
