Position Summary The Student Success Coach assists and guides mathematics students in the navigation and completion of their mathematics courses through early intervention, directing students to resources within the College that aid student success, as appropriate. The Student Success Coach develops, implements, and supports the daily delivery of services to students and is responsible for the maintenance of records, evaluation of activities, and preparation of reports related to assigned students. Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Student Success, the Student Success Coach is a collaborative services role focused on retention management, outreach, and intervention for students within identified sections of mathematics. 25 hours per week. Essential Job Functions 1. Provides an essential student service of assisting to prepare and support designated mathematics students through their courses. From workshops prior to the semester beginning to routine follow-up and outreach, the Student Success Coach - Mathematics, will serve as a pillar of support for this cohort of students.
2. Provides proactive mentoring and coaching for students to work toward successful completion of their math course(s). Conducts needs assessments of students and coordinates the development and implementation of action and educational plans for each student, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on students' academic progress, intervening with appropriate support services when necessary, and referring to appropriate internal and community-based support services as needed.
3. Engages at-risk, underserved, first-generation, low-income and differently-abled students, providing one-on-one meetings to improve engagement and ensure success.
4. Supports the student support services program by assisting in the recruitment of program participants, developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating learning enhancement activities, workshops, and personal development activities for all students, advocating on behalf of students with faculty, staff, and colleagues, if necessary, ensuring students meet guidelines for maintaining active involvement in the program, and encouraging retention by providing academic support and guidance.
5. Collaborates with Disability Services regarding early alert interventions and serves as a liaison between students and the College's occupational and academic departments.
6. Understands, supports, and actively demonstrates the College's mission, vision, and values. Executes responsibilities in accordance with applicable laws and Monroe County Community College's policies, including the Code of Ethics.
7. Establishes and maintains working relationships with College and community representatives and students by serving on advisory committees, attending workshops and/or conferences on and off the College campus, and attends division/advisory meetings to remain current in program offerings and career/occupational trends. Relays pertinent information to appropriate Student Service function. Attends school activities and events to interact with College students, faculty, and staff.
8. Assists with the creation, implementation, and execution of departmental and College policies and procedures, and assisting with data collection for required reports. Assists with the development of student success, retention, and completion materials and presentations to support individual and group sessions.
9. Develops and implements procedures for intake, monitoring, and assessment of student progress in accordance with program and grant guidelines. Tracks and maintains department expenditure activities and verifies against the grant budget.
10. Models and promotes a culture where accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion are embedded in college life and operations.
11. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, attending training and/or courses required by the supervisor, and academic advisement center staff meetings when faculty and staff present departmental information.
12. Contributes to the overall success of the Student Success Center by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements Associate's degree in a related field. Minimum three years of work-related experience assisting and assessing students/clients in academic and/or life skills. Experience working with low-income and/or first-generation students preferred.
