Chesterfield County Government is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to be responsible for verifying compliance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulation to include occupational safety and health and environmental. This position implements and maintains programs to comply with EPA and OSHA regulations and supports Environmental Management System program. Oversees departmental safety and environmental training requirements. Provides environmental, occupational health and safety compliance and technical guidance and support services to departmental personnel to identify, evaluate and control workplace hazards, mitigate risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and prevent losses associated with County and activities and operations. Provides specialized Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) subject matter guidance and counsel; performs periodic EHS inspections, audits and evaluations of work environments, workshops, and fields jobsites. Conducts EHS training to help prevent injury, protect the environment, manage EHS risks and other duties as required. PLEASE NOTE: Must maintain personal mobile technology as a condition of employment. Perform other work as required. This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
Successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; preferred area of study in environmental, occupational health and safety, fire safety, engineering, or a related science; minimum of three years of experience working in the occupational safety and health and environmental compliance field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid, or capable of being trained and certified in these subjects. Must be competent with Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Strong written communication and oral presentation skills. Industrial Hygienist, Hazardous Materials Manager, Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST), Environmental Safety & Health Trainer (CET), Associate in Risk Management Designation (ARM) certifications preferred. Experience with safety training directly related to utility construction and/or water and wastewater treatment facilities preferred.
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within 30 days of interview date.
