Job Summary:

As a Test Engineer at our facility specializing in rugged UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, you will join our Sustaining Engineering team to ensure that engineer-to-order UPS systems meet stringent military standards and performance requirements.Your primary responsibilities will include validating and verifying system designs, qualifying components, troubleshooting customer returns, and resolving customer escalations.

You will work closely with the Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing teams throughout the product lifecycle. Your role will involve designing and executing comprehensive test strategies, with a focus on military standards, EMI (electromagnetic interference) testing, and environmental testing, including shock, vibration, thermal, and humidity requirements.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain robust test processes, procedures, and documentation to ensure thorough validation and verification of engineer-to-order UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, meeting both customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Support the qualification and reliability testing of critical power components-such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, relays, and power modules-ensuring compliance with performance, durability, and safety requirements.
  • Plan, conduct, and oversee EMI (electromagnetic interference) testing in accordance with military specifications, including MIL-STD-461, to verify system resilience in challenging electromagnetic environments.
  • Coordinate and participate in agency testing at external laboratories to achieve certifications such as CE, UL, and other relevant regulatory standards, ensuring all documentation and test results align with compliance expectations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to customer returns, providing detailed root cause analysis and effective resolutions while managing the technical aspects of customer escalations to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Create, modify, and maintain factory test software using TestStand, ensuring seamless integration with test hardware and accurate, repeatable test execution.
  • Oversee the proper selection, use, handling, and calibration of specialized test instruments, ensuring equipment reliability and adherence to calibration schedules to support consistent test outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement new testing procedures at the factory, adapting to evolving product designs and production needs while maintaining alignment with quality and performance goals.
  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations during design reviews, production planning, and process optimization efforts to enhance overall product reliability and manufacturability.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering), Computer Science, or a related STEM discipline from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in test engineering, product validation, or a related technical field, preferably within industries involving power systems, electronics, or ruggedized equipment. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of directly related professional experience demonstrating progressive responsibility and technical expertise.
  • Strong working knowledge of military standards, particularly MIL-STD-461 (electromagnetic interference testing), and familiarity with agency testing and certification processes, including CE, UL and other regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret technical specifications, schematics, and engineering drawings, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy in applying standards to real-world applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in power electronics, including the design, testing, or troubleshooting of DC/DC, AC/DC, and DC/AC conversion systems.
  • Hands-on experience working with high-voltage systems (up to 400V or higher), adhering to strict safety protocols and industry standards to mitigate risks associated with electrical hazards during testing and validation activities.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of troubleshooting complex power systems, high-voltage components, or conversion circuits and implementing effective solutions in a technical environment.
  • Familiarity with test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, Power Meter) and software tools used in validation, verification, or production testing of power electronics and UPS systems is highly desirable.
Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent people skills, with experience leading and collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment
  • Ability to handle multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
  • Experience in a low volume / high mix or New Product Introduction (NPI) manufacturing environment
  • Proficient with TestStand, Python
  • Experience/certification in lean practices; 5S, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing preferred
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach to learning and adapting to new technologies, standards, and processes in a fast-paced, deadline-driven workplace, with an emphasis on advancing expertise in power electronics and safe high-voltage practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and communicate effectively with cross-functional groups, including engineering, quality assurance, and manufacturing teams, while emphasizing safety and compliance in high-voltage operations.

Compensation

Employee Type: Salaried

Salary Minimum: $100,000

Salary Maximum: $120,000
