About Us


The McClelland Library, in partnership with the Irish Cultural Center, is a cultural gem in the heart of Phoenix, dedicated to celebrating history, literature, and the arts. As we look toward the future, we need a visionary leader to expand our reach, enhance our programming, and help secure our financial sustainability.

We're searching for a strategic and creative Program Director to lead the charge. This role is not just about managing programs-it's about building a legacy. Over time, as the organization grows, this position has the potential to transition into an Executive Director role.



About the Role


As Program Director, you'll be responsible for designing engaging and mission-driven programs, managing financial resources, leading marketing efforts, and developing a high-performing team. You'll also be the face of the library, working closely with donors, stakeholders, and community partners to elevate our visibility and impact.



What You'll Do

• 
  Develop & Execute Programs - Design and implement high-quality programs that align with our mission and attract community engagement.
• 
  Lead Organizational Growth - Shape the strategic direction in partnership with leadership, ensuring long-term sustainability.
• 
  Financial & Budget Oversight - Manage budgets, control expenses, and identify creative revenue-generation opportunities.
• 
  Community & Donor Engagement - Serve as the organization's ambassador, building relationships with donors, media, and stakeholders.
• 
  Marketing & Outreach - Develop marketing strategies that boost program participation and enhance our public profile.
• 
  Team Leadership - Hire, mentor, and manage staff and volunteers to foster a dynamic and collaborative work environment.
• 
  Ensure Operational Excellence - Oversee policies, compliance, and best practices to maintain organizational efficiency and financial health.
• 
  Other Duties as Assigned - Because no two days at a cultural institution are ever the same!

What You Bring to the Table

• 
  Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  
• 
  5-15 years of relevant experience in program management, nonprofit leadership, or cultural institutions.
• 
  Proven strategic leadership with a track record of driving organizational success.
• 
  Strong financial acumen-experience with budgeting, revenue generation, and cost optimization.
• 
  Excellent communication skills-ability to engage diverse stakeholders and represent the organization effectively.
• 
  Creative and analytical mindset-capable of balancing big-picture strategy with day-to-day execution.
• 
  Marketing expertise-comfortable developing campaigns that increase visibility and participation.
• 
  Flexibility-willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holiday events as needed.
