About the Position

The Peck School, a coed, K-8, independent school in Morristown, NJ, seeks aspiring professionals to join the Lower School Associate Teacher Program. The Associate Teacher Program places novice teachers in the elementary classroom (K-4) alongside experienced teachers to participate in all aspects of instruction, planning, and daily school life. Associate Teachers receive broad support for personal and professional growth through regular meetings, extensive professional development opportunities, and immersive classroom experiences. 

In addition to gaining experience at the elementary level, Associate Teachers can broaden their expertise and skills by leading after-school activities and coaching middle school (5-8) athletics.

This position provides exceptionally strong benefits, including medical and dental insurance. The salary is $36,000, with opportunities to earn stipends for additional responsibilities. Robust support for professional development is provided to all Associate Teachers, and free on-campus housing is available on a limited basis. 

Overview of Responsibilities

  • Classroom Presence: Over the course of the year, Associate Teachers build a toolkit of instructional skills, including lesson planning, lesson implementation, differentiation, assessment approaches, classroom management, parent communication, collaboration, and more! With guidance from a Homeroom Teacher, Associate Teachers grow in their abilities and confidence to plan and teach independently.
  • Learning Environment: Foster an environment that promotes a culture of curiosity, perseverance, and creativity among all students. Working within a grade-level team, Associate Teachers are an integral part of a classroom community that students are excited to be a part of!
  • Duties: Oversee student safety and wellness during recess, before and after school, and lunch. Each Associate Teacher receives their own duty schedule.
  • Meetings & Professional Development: Attend professional development opportunities provided by the school, including but not limited to Orton Gillingham and Responsive Classroom training. Participate in all required meetings, including department, division, and grade-level meetings, scheduled collaboration times, professional development days, and beginning and end-of-year meetings.

Qualifications/Experience

  • An undergraduate degree is required. 
  • A background in elementary education is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children.

  • Technology Skills: Ability to navigate the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Slides, etc.). Comfortable using or learning technology as part of Peck’s systemic workflow (Zoom, Apple AirPlay, SeeSaw, Google Classroom, printers, copiers, etc.).
