Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for one or more experienced, highly motivated attorneys to serve as State Trial Counsel. The State Trial Counsel will join a new Office of the State Trial Counsel (OSTC) led by the Chief State Trial Counsel, which represents the Attorney General's commitment to the highest quality of civil trial advocacy throughout the Attorney General's Office. This new Office will serve Assistant Attorneys General within the Office's civil enforcement and litigation bureaus (including its Public Protection & Advocacy, Health Care & Fair Competition, Energy & Environment, and Government Bureaus) as a central resource for trial strategy, case development, and trial preparation and presentation.
Primary Duties:
Lead or otherwise work directly on select complex civil litigation matters, as needed. In the near term, it is expected that much of the State Trial Counsel's work will involve leading or joining civil litigation teams challenging federal actions that harm the Commonwealth and its residents.
Support and consult with Assistant Attorneys General on specific complex civil litigation matters.
Work closely with and assist the Chief State Trial Counsel to carry out OSTC's mission, including in by providing a structure for the supervision and management of complex civil litigation matters and by developing an officewide hub for civil trial advocacy training and skills development for the Office.
Other duties as assigned by the Chief State Trial Counsel.
Position Requirements:

A minimum of 8 years of relevant complex civil litigation and trial experience (which may include judicial clerkships) and Massachusetts bar membership are required. Significant trial advocacy experience, outstanding oral and written communication skills, thorough knowledge of state and federal civil procedure, and an exceptional ability to work with a deadline is essential. The candidate must also
have a demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys, and working effectively in teams is essential. A familiarity with federal district court and Massachusetts Superior Court practice is desirable. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve, and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Applicants should be highly motivated and be able to work successfully in a fast-paced public sector law office.
Position Type: Full-time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some remote workdays for this position.
Salary : $90,000 - $125,572, commensurate with JD year and experience.
