We are seeking a Process Safety & Environmental Compliance Engineer to oversee and manage high hazard safety programs and environmental compliance at our manufacturing facility in Sumter, SC. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining programs that support Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Management (RMP), and overall environmental compliance. The engineer will work closely with site leadership and operations teams to foster a culture of safety and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs for high-hazard operations, including handling ionized radiation, combustible dust, and flammable materials.
Monitor safety and environmental performance metrics, engaging leadership to drive continuous improvement.
Conduct technical safety reviews for process modifications, capital projects, new product development, and equipment changes.
Serve as the subject matter expert on OSHA PSM compliance, ensuring regulatory adherence and continuous program enhancements.
Oversee Risk Management Programs (RMP), including audits, reporting, and compliance tracking.
Act as a key contact for regulatory inspections (EPA, OSHA, PSM, RMP), preparing and guiding the site through audits.
Lead or support project management efforts related to environmental and safety initiatives, ensuring projects meet scope, budget, and timeline objectives.
Collaborate with corporate environmental, health, and safety (EHS) teams to align local programs with global standards.
Research and implement new technologies for hazard detection, control, and process automation.
Lead process hazard analyses (PHA/HAZOP) and risk assessments for existing and new operations.
Develop and maintain emergency response plans, acting as a liaison with local emergency services.
Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective action plans for safety and environmental incidents.
Manage regulatory reporting to ensure timely submission of compliance documentation.
Drive site security and life safety system compliance and review emergency planning strategies.
Stay informed on evolving EHS legislation, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure compliance and proactive program management.
Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the site.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
5-7 years of experience in site-level safety program management, with at least 5 years working with hazardous substances.
Experience leading Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) or HAZOP studies and evaluating safety risks for new projects.
Hands-on experience in manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, or sterilization environments.
Strong knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA regulations, and environmental permitting (such as Title V or similar).
Experience conducting PSM audits and implementing high-hazard safety programs is preferred.
Ability to develop and influence safety culture across multiple levels of the organization.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail.
Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM are preferred.
Compensation:
Base Salary: $88,000-92,000
