Job Summary:

Develop and maintain process and documentation standards for manufacturing systems. Provide training and establish consistent compliance with these standards. Design and install production processes to support new products. Manage safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity metrics to promote continuous improvement. Employ structured problem-solving methods to resolve quality issues. Plan and manage simultaneous, complex manufacturing projects.

  • Develop and maintain process and documentation standards for manufacturing systems. Provide training and establish consistent compliance to these standards.
  • Direct the activities of less experienced engineering personnel.
  • Represent the manufacturing organization in meetings to plan and coordinate work.
  • Recommend design approaches considering customer specifications, product or component performance requirements, and manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Solid Works) to develop work instructions, assembly fixture concepts, and 2D shop floor layouts.
  • Provide instructions to fabricate and assemble product prototypes, manufacturing process equipment and fixtures, and engineering test frameworks.
  • Perform engineering analysis and feasibility investigations for new or improved product or component design concepts.
  • Assist with product introduction training.
  • Design the layout of equipment, materials, and workstations for maximum efficiency.
  • Establish labor standards and calculate staffing requirements and production standards.
  • Select, justify, purchase, install, and validate new capital equipment required for new or improved manufacturing processes.
  • Support the development of qualification test plans and procedures to assure that the performance and reliability of assembled products meet objectives.
  • Develop manufacturing methods to promote efficient, cost-effective staff and facility utilization.
  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, customer orders, and related information to support production activities.
  • Understand product specifications and apply statistical methods to determine manufacturing standards and establish quality objectives. Minitab experience preferred.
  • Evaluate the precision and accuracy of production and testing equipment.
  • Understand engineering drawings and design language. Apply this knowledge to process design and quality issues.
  • Lead structured problem-solving efforts to resolve supplier, manufacturing, and field service quality issues.
  • Recommend methods for improving performance to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity objectives.
  • Develop product improvements for existing products and qualify product changes via the Engineering Change process.
  • Plan and manage large, complex manufacturing projects.
  • Accomplish simultaneous projects. Resolve conflicting project requirements and priorities.
  • Provide estimates of resources and time required to meet objectives.
  • Provide technical and other progress reports as required.
  • Support other Follett departments with technical documentation and troubleshooting as required.
  • Analyze, understand and implement industry best practices.
  • Conduct on-site technical visits. Review and evaluate equipment, processes, and systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience of 10+ years in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, 5S, and kaizen principles is preferred.
  • Experience in cross-functional product development teams.
  • Team leadership experience and active participation in Kaizen events.
  • Demonstrated success handling simultaneous projects.
  • Experience justifying, purchasing, and qualifying capital equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Detailed ERP system knowledge and experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing
  • Ability to travel
  • Occasional lifting of 25 pounds.
  • Travel: Moderate travel as required in the performance of job duties, including travel between Follett business locations and to attending meetings/training as requested

Travel Requirements:
  • Moderate travel, approximately 20%, as required to perform job duties.
  • Requirements include travel between Follett business locations and attending meetings or training outside the company.
