Agile/Scrum Master profiles will not be considered - this is an engineering-led role, not an IT/Software PM.
We are exclusively partnering with a leading engineering consultancy in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector to identify a Project Manager with a strong engineering background. This is a crucial role for someone looking to leverage their technical expertise while growing in client-facing and leadership responsibilities.
This role requires candidates who have progressed from Engineering into Project Management, ideally with experience across a range of T&D projects including substations, overhead/underground transmission lines, transmission planning, and construction. The client is specifically seeking well-rounded generalists, though specialists who are open to broader scopes are also welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage T&D projects from initiation to completion, including substations, transmission lines (overhead/underground), and other related infrastructure.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication, alignment on project goals, and high customer satisfaction.
Collaborate closely with engineering teams to translate technical designs into actionable project plans.
Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables to ensure timely and successful outcomes.
Oversee contractor and subcontractor performance on construction phases of T&D projects.
Conduct regular client meetings and site visits (approximately 1 day/week or as needed).
Maintain project documentation, reports, and status updates for both internal and external stakeholders.
Foster and maintain strong relationships with utility clients, particularly Dominion Energy (experience preferred).
Preferred Background & Experience
Engineering degree (Electrical, Civil, or related disciplines) with a career progression into Project Management.
5-15+ years of relevant T&D engineering and/or project management experience.
Proven history of delivering Transmission and Distribution (T&D) projects - including substations, overhead/underground transmission lines, transmission planning, and construction.
Client-facing experience with utilities, EPCs, or engineering consultancies, with the ability to manage expectations and ensure client satisfaction.
Dominion Energy project experience is highly desirable but not mandatory - candidates should be well-referenced within the T&D community.
Comfortable working on a variety of project scopes (generalist mindset); specialists must be open to working across disciplines.
PMP certification preferred but not essential.
Must live within commuting distance to Richmond, VA - role requires 1-3 days in-office and flexibility for client site visits.
Key Attributes for Success
Strong technical foundation in engineering with the ability to manage complex T&D projects.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor and project lead.
Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable to varying project scopes and client demands.
Focused on quality, safety, and delivery within time and budget constraints.
