The DC Operations Manager oversees the daily activities of the Operations within Tempest Distribution centers and the physical flow of products in and out of the Distribution Center, including product sent into Tempest Repair Lab and our Outsourced Vendors for testing, refurbishment, and repair. This role's focus and responsibility are compliance with our applicable processes and established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) including operational Turn Around Times (TATs).
Position Mission - "To fully support and meet the ongoing needs of Tempest's business model by maximizing the efficiency, quality, and service of Tempest's distribution operations in the most cost-effective manner possible, while focusing on safety, performance, and employee satisfaction throughout".
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The DC Director of Operations will be assigned specific tasks and quarterly objectives to meet operational goals and customer requirements while creating an operations team that performs to high standards in a safe, well-organized, and positive environment.
Areas of Responsibility - Managing all aspects of the DC facilities
Distribution Operations and Staff (Receiving, Shipping, Inventory Control, Production Control, Repair and Equipment Processing).
Material handling and processing, Consumables
Customer Program SLAs, Cost Reductions
Inventory tracking and cycle count accuracy
Safety, Quality, Demand Planning
Facility Maintenance, Upkeep, Training, and Leases
The DC Director of Operations will ensure all direct reports share responsibility for the following tasks in cooperation with their counterparts:
Operations Management: Lead, Guide, Coach and provide directions to Managers, and warehouse associates to ensure they effectively fill their roles across the operation (shipping, receiving, inventory management) and we are meeting customer SLAs and TATs. Ensure that facilities maintain the highest level of cleanliness and safety.
Leadership and Development: Recruit suitable candidates and provide constructive feedback, annual reviews, training, and coaching to promote continuous growth within the team.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Define relevant KPIs, monitor team performance, and initiate corrective actions when necessary. Upon request, develop comprehensive monthly reports, offer insights into various business or operations aspects, such as OTD, TAT, and Inventory Metrics.
Quality and Continuous Improvement: Identify process enhancements and lead initiatives to implement improvements that will improve NPS and create a zero-tolerance Mis-ship environment.
Safety: Lead all activities geared to culture, incidents, and workplace and personal PPE safety.
When required, backfill and perform the responsibilities of a Warehouse Associate as defined in the Warehouse Associate job description.
Additional Responsibilities: Undertake additional assignments and duties as directed by manager.
Objectives:
Clean-up and streamline all processes, procedures, and material handling in the DC facility.
Eliminate waste throughout the operation.
Work with our ERP team to implement automation wherever possible to help achieve the Position Mission.
Create a positive Team environment for all your staff.
Manage and evaluate your entire team.
Help identify inventory that should be scraped, dumped, or repurposed.
Establish quality standards for packaging throughout
Work with SVP to plan out the facility requirements for the future.
Work with sales/buyers on special projects to handle EQ orders and programs.
Refine and lead the improvement of the Red Hat process.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Minimum of a High school diploma or GED, with at least two years of college or junior college education. A four-year degree in Supply Chain Management (SCM) or Operations Management is preferred.
At least six years of professional work experience in a similar role in the telecom and RL Industry.
Proficient/Familiar in operating equipment used in distribution/warehouse operations, including but not limited to forklifts and automated pallet wrapping machines.
Basic understanding and ability to oversee carrier-related operations, including Package, Less Than Truckload (LTL), and Full Truckload (FTL) transportation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as computer skills.
Capable of multitasking and managing shifting priorities.
Demonstrates keen attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability.
Demonstrated the ability to adapt to change and thrive in a dynamic, competitive market.
Ensures adherence to company processes and guidelines at all times.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting and Standing: Ability to sit for extended periods (for office tasks, meetings, etc.) and stand during inspections, tours, or discussions on the warehouse floor.
Walking: Must be able to walk around the distribution center regularly to oversee operations, supervise staff, and ensure safety protocols are followed.
Moderate to Heavy Lifting: While the director might not handle goods directly, they may need to occasionally lift or move boxes, documents, or other materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
Vision: Ability to focus on various tasks, including reading documents, computer screens, and observing warehouse activities. A close vision for tasks involving computer work and ensuring product quality may be needed.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform duties in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with prolonged periods of standing, walking, and physical activity.
Manual Dexterity: Basic coordination for tasks like using office equipment (computers, phones) and occasionally handling equipment or tools in the warehouse.
Hearing: Good hearing may be necessary for effective communication, especially in a busy distribution center with machinery or equipment operating.
