Job Summary:
5 - 10 years experience. The System Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems within industrial plants. They collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize plant processes, enhance efficiency, and ensure reliable operation. Responsibilities: System Design: Develop and design control systems, instrumentation, and automation solutions for plant equipment and processes. Integration: Integrate various subsystems (such as PLCs, SCADA, DCS) to create a cohesive and efficient plant-wide system. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to plant systems, ensuring minimal downtime. Process Optimization: Analyze data, identify bottlenecks, and propose improvements to enhance productivity and reduce costs. Maintenance: Oversee system maintenance, upgrades, and preventive measures. Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental guidelines. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or chemical engineering. Experience: Prior experience in industrial automation, control systems, or process engineering. Skills: Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley). Knowledge of HMI/SCADA systems. Familiarity with P&IDs (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams). Strong problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Must have at least a bachelor's degree from an ABET-certified school.
Job Responsibilities:
Equipment Monitoring & Improvement: Regularly monitor assigned plant equipment, investigate potential improvements, and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and reliability.
Budget Management: Develop and track routine, outage, and capital budgets for assigned equipment, systems, and processes.
Maintenance Execution: Direct and coordinate maintenance crews and/or contractors to execute major maintenance and replacement activities while ensuring compliance with contract specifications, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
Technical Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve critical equipment issues in a safe and effective manner to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
Maximo Utilization: Effectively utilize Maximo for reviewing maintenance strategies, identifying equipment issues, and conducting Root Cause Analyses.
Vendor & Technology Engagement: Establish relationships with key vendors, gather and analyze data on new and rebuilt equipment, and stay informed about technological advancements in the industry.
Best Practices Implementation: Support and contribute to the Best Practices program by developing and executing improvements in a timely and efficient manner.
System Design & Integration: Design and implement control systems, instrumentation, and automation solutions while integrating subsystems such as PLCs, SCADA, and DCS.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all plant operations adhere to safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental policies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with different teams, including operations, maintenance, and contractors, to drive projects to successful completion.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering (Electrical Engineering preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in an industrial setting (Power Plant or Paper Mill experience preferred).
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of plant equipment, systems, and operations.
Proficiency in industrial automation, control systems, and process engineering.
Experience with PLC programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley preferred).
Familiarity with HMI/SCADA systems and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Skills & Competencies:
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate strategic planning.
Proficiency in computer-based applications and asset management software (Maximo preferred).
Understanding of the IBEW contract.
Project management and budgeting expertise.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams to achieve organizational objectives.
Additional Requirements:
Must currently reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Plant Barry or be willing to relocate.
Ability to work in an industrial environment, including exposure to high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery.
Willingness to travel occasionally for training, vendor meetings, or site evaluations
