Job Description:

We are seeking a Working Civil Superintendent with hands-on experience in the commercial construction industry to oversee and directly participate in the daily operations of our projects. This role will require the superintendent to actively work on-site with the construction crew, operating equipment, laying pipe, and ensuring the work is performed according to the project specifications, safety regulations, and timeline.

Availability and ability to travel.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and actively participate in on-site duties, including operating equipment, laying pipe, trenching, grading, and other civil construction tasks.
  • Lead by example, ensuring high-quality work is completed efficiently.
  • Direct and coordinate the work of labor crews. Provide guidance and ensure proper techniques are used in all construction processes, including pipe installation, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Actively enforce safety protocols and ensure the team follows all OSHA standards. Conduct daily safety checks, toolbox talks and encourage a safety-first environment. Address and resolve any safety concerns immediately.
  • Assist in the creation and management of project schedules, ensuring all tasks are completed on time. Monitor the progress of all work, adjusting schedules as needed to remain on time.
  • Operate construction equipment such as backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, and trenchers. Ensure that equipment is maintained and safe for use on-site, performing routine checks and coordinating maintenance as needed.
  • Monitor the work to ensure it meets all specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Perform inspections and verify that materials are being used correctly. Address any discrepancies or quality issues promptly.
  • Coordinate the delivery and use of materials on-site, ensuring the team has what they need to keep the work moving without delays. Track inventory and work with procurement teams to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Communicate regularly with the project team. Provide updates on progress, challenges, and any necessary adjustments to timelines or plans.
  • Supervisor team members on-site, ensuring their work aligns with project goals and specifications. Resolve issues that may arise with the team to maintain workflow and efficiency.
  • Complete daily reports of work completed, equipment usage, safety checks, and any incidents or issues on-site. Track labor hours, material usage, and productivity to maintain accurate records for billing and project tracking.
  • Address any challenges on-site such as unforeseen ground conditions, equipment breakdowns, or changes in scope. Use your expertise to find practical solutions and keep the project on track.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
  • Must have a Valid Driver's License
  • Minimum of 10 years of Heavy Civil Infrastructure or Heavy Highway construction industry Depending upon the project size, scope, and complexity the years of experience may vary.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in a supervisory role
  • General Experience and knowledge with all aspects of site development
  • Thorough knowledge of Heavy Equipment of all types (includes identifying equipment distress signals and overseeing maintenance, lubrication and general care).
  • Familiarity with details of erosion control, surveying, punch work, bond release and storm water drainage installation
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, assess operating talent of operators and help advance talents of all individuals in the crew.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills.
  • Large diameter Pipe, Utility, Mass Excavation field superintendent experience required
  • Prior experience effectively leading construction operations
  • Self-starter capable of improving operations processes
  • Ability to read and understand project specific document including blue prints, schedules, standard plans and specifications
  • Ability to keep records and to prepare work and time reports
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and clearly communicate instruction to crew
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed
  • Strong client relation skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office

Typical Physical Needs:

Requires prolonged standing, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Requires normal range of hearing and May need to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding and lift to up 50 pounds.
