Position Overview:

The Principal Solution Architect will be responsible and accountable for the solution architecture role on medical device ecosystem development programs . This includes solutions that impact our Pod (wearable automated insulin delivery device), PDMs ( Pod control and monitoring applications on iOS and Android devices), Product Data Cloud ( our Cloud services that interact with the P od and PDM), and related supporting applications and systems.

In the Principal Solution Architect role, you will be responsible for setting architectural direction and technology enabler roadmaps at the ecosystem level by working with product m anagement, program management, architects and systems engineering that are working at the enterprise, system, and application level . You will be called upon to communicate and obtain buy-in on the vision and technology plan at all levels in the product and engineering organizations, including to executive leadership . You may also be called upon to work with technology and solution partners in cases where solutions involve them.

This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Vice President of Medical Device Archi te cture .

Responsibilities

  • Establish and o wn the technology strategy and roadmap for medical device ecosystem project and programs .

  • Define the technology strateg ies by understanding product and business requirements , defining the needed technology enablers , and developing a roadmap that supports those requirements and capabilities .

  • Create architecture , design, and technology requirements specifications and acceptance criteria .

  • Provide technical guidance to architects and software engineering team s to drive development and integration of robust solutions that are in line with business objectives .

  • Drive application integration with I nsulet and third-party systems , both commercial off the shelf systems and in-house developed web , mobile , and embedded device software in line with the technology roadmap.

  • Serve as a technical expert to product teams and help them build technology-based use cases and acceptance criteria .

  • Ensure that solutions satisfy enterprise level requirements, principles and technology strategy and help evolve that strategy when necessary

  • Ensure compliance with security and all applicable regulations

  • Drive innovation by identifying new technologies and solutions that can be used to improve capabilities, efficiency, performance, maintainability, and cost reduction for support and operations.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle , includ ing working with business users, technical architects, and other stakeholders to ensure that the data meets the needs of all stakeholders .

  • Lead architecture forums, review s , working groups, and contribute to standards development and oversight.

Required Skills and Competencies


  • Solution Architecture : Proven experience in creating solution architectures and technology roadmaps for complex systems involving cloud, mobile, and embedded software.


  • Cloud Software : Significant exposure to cloud software, particularly AWS, with a strong understanding of Web based application technology stacks .


  • Mobile Technologies : Experience with iOS and/or Android mobile application architecture and development.


  • Wireless : Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy, GATT, and wireless communication.


  • Cybersecurity : Experience with p ublic key c ryptography, secure communication, and device attestation.


  • Data Management : Familiarity with I o T and data management systems that ingest and manage large amounts of data coming from devices .


  • Systems Integration : Significant exposure to enterprise system integration methodologies including RESTful APIs and API management systems.


  • Leading and Mentoring : Experience leading and mentoring engineering/ development teams with requirements analysis, t echnical and professional skills .


  • Collaboration : Strong collaboration and influencing skills to work effectively with architecture, engineering, and other stakeholders


  • Process es : Experience with Agile development processes including SAFe


  • Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to present to large audiences from executives to developers.

Desired Skills and Competencies

  • Experience in a formal team management /leadership role

  • Experience with developing systems that are subject to FDA/Medical device regulations .

  • Experience with software architecture for hardware devices supported by modules running on the ThreadX RTOS (or similar) on custom ASICs.

  • Experience with cybersecurity related best practices for software and systems design

  • Experience with algorithm/model development

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

Education and Experience

  • Engineering Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience , Masters degree preferred

  • 1 5 + years of relevant development experience for a commercial product company

  • Experience in MedTech, Life Sciences , or other regulated industry a plus

Additional Information

  • The position can be remote, hybrid or in-person at our Acton MA or San Diego CA offices .

  • Travel is estimated at 1 0% but will flex depending on business needs .

Additional Information:
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $191,625.00 - $287,437.50. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
