The Westport, CT chapter of a national non-profit that identifies, recruits, and develops leaders among young people of color throughout the United States, is seeking a passionate, local, part-time Executive and Development Director. In this newly created role, the Executive and Development Director ("EDD") will lead all facets of the program.
Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Board President, the EDD is responsible for implementing policies set by the Board, setting annual goals and objectives, and operating within budget guidelines. Additionally, the EDD will oversee all staff, volunteers, fundraising, and the execution of the mission.
Board Accountability:
? Report directly to the President of the Board.
? Collaborate with staff to ensure all practices are consistent with the program mission. Provide a monthly report to the Board on the status of the program.
? Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of programs, services, and fundraising efforts for the Board.
? Work with the Board President to set the agenda, manage and run all Board meetings.
? Work with Board President and other Board designees on restructuring of Board, recruiting of new Board members.
Fundraising:
? Oversee the development and execution of the annual appeal process.
? Build relationships with major donors and secure annual support.
? Oversee execution of the annual fundraiser and any additional fundraisers, including solicitation of sponsors, securing individual donor support, and managing event logistics.
? Develop relationships with directors of local foundations and work with Board designees (if applicable) to submit grant proposals.
? Design plan for Annual Fundraising event.
Marketing:
? Raise awareness of the organization through publicity, social media, direct mail, and as program spokesperson for local organizations.
? Develop marketing and recruitment tools to encourage engagement of residents of all ages as members, volunteers, and/or donors.
Community Outreach:
? Collaborate with other nonprofit organizations and town bodies serving evolving needs.
? Work with local organizations to develop coordinated programming that addresses the broad-ranging needs of the program's mission.
? Strengthen relationships with other chapters through participation in monthly calls, meetings with local heads, and working with the Board President to plan and execute joint outings and/or events with other local chapters.
Staff/Volunteers:
? Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff within the program, including developing clear roles and responsibilities for staff members and working to resolve disputes between staff members.
? Manage/meet weekly with employees.
? Assist with recruiting and interviewing.
? Oversee day-to-day operations and ad hoc issues that arise.
? Make decisions on administrative and financial needs and authorize payment of expenses.
? Collaborate with the Board President and/or Board designee to determine insurance and legal needs and secure appropriate coverage and representation.
? Manage income-generating activities, including fundraising.
? Track income and expense activity to ensure budget compliance.
Budget/Finance:
? Oversee annual budget and work with Board Treasurer.
? Collaborate with Board designee on investment portfolio.
? Collaborate with Board designee on endowments, if any.
? Maintain financial records to respond to government, business, and grant requirements.
? Ensure fundraising efforts are meeting operating needs.
