Job Description:

The Department of Classical Studies in the School of Arts & Sciences at the University of Richmond invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin on August 19, 2025.


We seek a teacher-scholar who shares our commitment to highly effective teaching at all levels of the curriculum. The successful candidate will teach 3 courses in the fall and 3 courses in the spring semester, which may include but are not limited to Introduction to Mythology, beginning and intermediate Latin, Ancient Dining and Drinking, and/or History of Medicine.


Richmond's Department of Classical Studies maintains a vibrant academic program that enrolls a broad array of students each semester while successfully training a small cadre each year for graduate studies in art, archaeology, classics, history, law, linguistics, medicine, and theology. A PhD in Classics or a related field is required by the time of appointment.
