Position Summary:
Temporary Full-Time Instructor of Trombone:
Arkansas State University (A-State) is recruiting applicants for the position of Temporary Full-Time Instructor of Trombone beginning August 16, 2024. A-State seeks a visionary musician and educator who will join a music department recognized throughout the region for artistic excellence and student success.
The Artist/Instructor of Trombone is expected to be an outstanding leader, music educator, and performer for undergraduate and graduate level music students as well as be a visible resource to the instrumental music education community in the Mid-South and beyond.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Artist/Instructor of Trombone will:
?Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trombone to music and non-music majors
?Assist with the recruiting and retention efforts of the department for music and non-music majors in the trombone studio
? Pursue an active performance/creative/scholarly agenda
Perform additional duties that will be assigned based on the strengths of the selected applicant and the needs of the department
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required or applicable to the position responsibilities and area of specialization, including special abilities.
Knowledge and ability in jazz is welcome, but not required.
Preferred Qualifications:
An earned Doctorate Degree or commensurate experience is preferred.
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (hours vary related to clinical rotations, office hours, didactic course load, and other program activities)
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
The Artist/Instructor of Trombone will be expected to have regular and reliable attendance Monday - Friday during the school day (8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m.) to teach courses, hold office hours, and participate fully in departmental, collegiate, and university activities. Additional hours outside of the school day are expected as needed for items that include but are not limited to performances, recruiting, and outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Master's Degree in trombone is required
A strong commitment to recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding trombone students; evidence of ongoing creative, performing, or research activities; demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups associated with a major university music program including students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, and community members. Evidence of ongoing creative, performing, or research activities is also required.
