Our client is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our Utility Division. We are looking for a local candidate with estimating experience with steel manufactured products and associated welding and other fabrication processes that we can train.
This person will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, preparing cost estimates, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to ensure accurate and competitive bids. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to develop accurate cost estimates.
Prepare detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, and production expenses.
Collaborate with purchasing to understand steel and other raw material pricing.
Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotes to determine cost-effective solutions.
Assist in the development of bid proposals and pricing strategies.
Maintain and update cost databases, historical pricing, and estimation tools.
Identify potential cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
Communicate with clients to clarify project requirements and provide technical guidance as needed.
Monitor industry trends, material costs, and manufacturing advancements to enhance estimation accuracy.
Support project management and production teams in cost control and budget adherence.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred
Experience: 3+ years of experience in estimating within a manufacturing or construction environment, preferably in utility pole or steel structure fabrication.
Must be comfortable reading fabrication drawings and design calculations.
Needs to be able to interpret and create bill of materials and perform material take-offs.
Should have knowledge of labor hours and SG&A rates.
Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Need someone who can be creative and help refine estimating tools and software.
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
