Location: The Chemical Container Engineering Manager position will be located in Carlsbad, CA or Sheboygan Falls, WI area and is an onsite role. Less than 10% domestic and international travel is required to support business needs.
Your Role
The Thin Films business unit of EMD Electronics has the ambition to adopt notable automation and digitization in container processing in all its manufacturing sites. You and your global team will play a pivotal role in advancing and supporting automation, digitization, and quality across all TF sites.
Collaborate with design engineers to design, develop and deliver automated container handling tools for all Thin Films sites as well as collaborate with third-party vendors to enhance tool development speed and efficiency. Incorporate design capabilities to collect and analyze container data during processing to identify trends and improve operational efficiency. Ensure data consistency and alignment across sites with existing and newly deployed container processing tools. Provide training and support to site teams for effective tool utilization.
Collaborate with production sites and cross functional teams to assess site CapEx needs for new container cleaning and processing tools while aligning with growth objectives and market demands. Analyze current and future production requirements to recommend appropriate investments in technology and equipment. Support sites in developing comprehensive CapEx proposals that justify investments and align with organizational goals.
Design and develop tools for handling containers, ensuring compatibility with different container types and associated components. Utilize knowledge of valves, liquid level sensors, VCR fittings, etc. in the design process to enhance tool functionality and safety. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure tools meet operational needs. Join with site teams to identify opportunities for tool integration and standardization. Conduct testing and validation of designed tools to ensure reliability and performance. Promote best practices in automation and digitization across the business unit.
Work jointly with operational and Data & Digitization teams to understand and prioritize user requirements of automation and digitization, formulate clear development roadmaps, perform testing and validation, and deploy digital solutions aimed at improving quality, increasing labor efficiency, and/or maximizing production capacity in a standardized way across the business unit.
Accountable for understanding and supporting key initiatives within container engineering such as CQI (Container Quality Initiative) and FA (failure analysis).
Gain knowledge of container processing capabilities of all production sites, the people and their specialty skillsets.
Mentor and manage a global team with members across thin films manufacturing sites in the US and Asia. Support automation and digital tool adoption within the business through upskilling, training, and engagement initiatives of team and self.
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or other technical discipline
5+ years industry experience in areas such as process engineering, controls engineering, equipment manufacturing, automation and chemical manufacturing
Strong project management skills used for managing complex multi-phased projects including scope, schedule, and cost
Basic understanding of data engineering, pipeline development, data science, data analytics, and data visualization
Basic understanding of automation, PLC systems, and programming syntax
Appreciation of chemical hazards in the electronics industry
Preferred Qualifications:
MS or PhD in engineering, science, or other technical discipline
7+ industry experience in areas such as process engineering, controls engineering, equipment manufacturing, automation and chemical manufacturing
Strong organizational and planning skills with attention to detail
Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a global team-oriented environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficient with data engineering, pipeline development, data science, data analytics, and data visualization with Palantir Foundry, Tableau, and/or dashboard development
Proficient knowledge in automation, Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC systems, and programming syntax
Pay range for this position: $144,200 - $225,100
