Job Description

About This Role

The BioDesign Protein Biohemistry group at Biogen is seeking a creative and self-motivated scientist to contribute to our mission to design and develop medicines to transform patients' lives. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, generating, and characterizing antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates intended to improve the delivery of therapeutic oligonucleotides (ASOs or siRNAs) to target tissues.  This role requires a strong background in protein chemistry with extensive experience in bioconjugation and a deep understanding of linker design and optimization to improve the stability, efficiency, and efficacy of antibody-oligonucleotide conjugates.

What You'll Do

  • Optimize and implement protein purification schemes for engineered antibodies using computer-interfaced chromatography systems (e.g., AKTA or similar)

  • Characterize proteins using standard methods such as SDS-PAGE, analytical size-exclusion chromatography, and dynamic light scattering

  • Work with a cross-functional team to design and test novel linker chemistries to enhance conjugate stability and performance

  • Develop and optimize novel antibody-oligonucleotide conjugation and purification methods

  • Generate, purify, and analyze antibody-drug conjugates for use in animal models.

  • Actively contribute to project strategy and experimental design, and regularly present findings at team meetings

  • Troubleshoot technical challenges and drive continuous improvements in conjugation and purification workflows

Who You Are

The ideal candidate has a strong background in bioconjugation methods, a passion for science, and a genuine enthusiasm for collaborating within a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, chemical biology, chemistry, or a related field with 0-2 years experience, or a Master's degree with 4+ years relevant industry experience.

  • Extensive experience in protein purification, including method development.

  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with standard protein characterization methods (e.g., SDS-PAGE, size-exclusion chromatography and DLS).

  • Experience with antibody-oligonucleotide conjugation techniques, including click-chemistry and site-specific methods.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, plan, execute, and interpret complex experiments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with linker design

  • Experience with antibody-oligoconjugate quantitation and stability assays
