ASSISTANT PROFESSOR DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL THERAPY

(12-month, Tenure Track)

March 28, 2025

Samford Universitys School of Health Professions seeks a collaborative faculty member interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy. This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is a 12-month appointment and will begin during Summer/Fall 2025.

Qualified candidates will be a graduate of a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program and have a minimum of five years of experience as a practicing physical therapist. In addition, candidates must hold a clinical doctorate (DPT) or academic doctoral degree (PhD, DSc, EdD, or similar). Additional requirements include:

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Physical Therapist in Alabama
  • Expertise in orthopedic/sports physical therapy practice
  • A commitment to academic excellence
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, students and colleagues
  • Willingness to engage in community outreach activities, including serving in our pro-bono physical therapy clinic
  • Willingness to support the Christian mission of Samford University and the College of Health Sciences
  • Willingness to travel for university-related purposes, as needed

Major responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  • Teach courses in the DPT curriculum
  • Assist the PT program with assessment and learning outcomes
  • Engage in scholarly activity, as appropriate
  • Engage in university and professional service
  • Actively mentor and advise students in the DPT program

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • APTA board certification in Orthopedics/Sports Physical Therapy
  • Experience teaching in a CAPTE-accredited PT program

Salary is dependent upon qualifications, clinical experiences, previous academic teaching experiences, and scholarship accomplishments.
