Position Description:

This is an excellent opportunity to work throughout the summer while enjoying winters off. Gain hands-on experience in the construction industry, including operating heavy road equipment and driving tractor-trailers. As a driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a tractor-trailer, transporting asphalt and equipment to designated locations. You will also be a key part of the chip seal crew, contributing to essential road maintenance projects. Essential Functions:


  • Adhere to all safety regulations and maintain a strong commitment to working safely on all job sites.
  • Properly load and unload materials in a safe and efficient manner, following established procedures.
  • Operate a tractor-trailer safely and responsibly.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of the tractor and trailer before, during, and after deliveries to ensure proper operating conditions.
  • Inspect the underside of the vehicle and assist in the loading and unloading of materials as needed.
  • Perform physical tasks required for the role, including sitting for extended periods, using hands for handling materials, reaching, walking, climbing stairs, ladders, and catwalks, as well as stooping, bending, twisting, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Immediately report any equipment damage, safety hazards, or accidents to dispatch.
  • Consistently lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds and climb ladders as needed.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, working extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate. Must be willing to travel regionally with the crew, requiring reliable transportation and overnight stays.


Position Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL Class A or B) required, tank endorsement preferred
  • 21 years or older
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations
  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
  • High level of composure and good stress management


Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, handle, feel, talk, see and listen. The employee must be able to push levers forward and backwards. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, twist, kneel and crouch. Employee may sit for an hour or more at a time.
  • Ability to climb in and out of truck without assistance.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures both hot and cold.
  • Exposure to sound or noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to contaminants such as diesel fuel or exhaust.
  • Operate equipment, such as CB radios, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with dispatcher, branch manager, or other drivers.
