About the Role 

Essity North America is looking for an experienced Global Packaging Development Engineer who is responsible for developing packaging solutions in the global function but with a focus on North America. This involves identifying, developing, and implementing solutions for packaging from early prototyping through qualification at suppliers, to validation in Essity factories or third-party manufacturing.

The ideal candidate should/could live in Philadelphia, PA.

What You Will Do 


  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and implement packaging solutions that align with Essity’s category strategies and sustainability goals.

  • Develop packaging materials and packaging concepts, considering product protection, costs, sustainability aspects, as well as customer agreements and current legislation.

  • Plan, coordinate, and assess production trials to validate new packaging materials and specifications.

  • Conduct research and analysis of packaging materials to identify opportunities for harmonization and complexity reduction of the company’s packaging material specifications.

  • Maintain a high level of awareness regarding scientific materials, packaging designs, technology, and sustainability trends in the industry.

  • Collaborate with suppliers to source sustainable packaging materials.

Who You Are 


  • Bachelors, but preferably Master's Degree, in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or another relevant field

  • 3+ years of industrial experience, working with various forms of packaging development.

  • Experience from manufacturing environment and packaging machinery relative to line trials in the packaging process and performance issues is an advantage.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Project management experience is an advantage.

  • In depth knowledge of packaging materials, components and functionalities, the packaging filling process, and packaging associated test methods/standards.

  • Problem-solving skills. Ability to identify smart solutions with the right level of pragmatism.

  • Able to travel 20%-30%
