Job Description:

The UI Addiction and Recovery Collaborative (UI ARC) in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a full-time Research Associate. This position serves as a project evaluator for numerous funded projects involving substance use and addiction. The Research Associate in UI ARC will support the development and implementation of comprehensive evaluation plans and project management to ensure program operations, activities, and services align with research and service grant goals and objectives. Evaluation responsibilities include identifying and selecting appropriate evaluation measurements, performing data analyses, data monitoring, and data interpretation, and designing and authoring reports. Project management duties will include assisting in planning, implementing, and monitoring project activities, while maintaining detailed documentation to ensure adherence to deadlines and reporting requirements.

Position Responsibilities

• Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to plan and conduct evaluations.
• Ability to seek, synthesize, and organize information to summarize and communicate in a clear and concise manner.
• Ability to understand the context of a program and how it affects planning, implementation, outcomes, and evaluation.
• Commitment to ensuring evaluation activities are done in a culturally competent manner.
• Assist with the design and development of project implementation, development of data collection measures and instruments, and program evaluation tools.
• Generate queries, reports, exports, and other data as needed.
• Submission of timely and accurate reports for existing grant-funded projects.
• Meet deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval to ensure timely transmittal/submission of proposals.
• Manage databases, including Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap).
• Assist with IRB applications.
• Work in a team environment and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and learners.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree.
• Minimum 2 years of work experience related to research support activities.
• Knowledge of frameworks and methods for program evaluation in a research setting, including design, data collection, data analyses, and reporting.
• Ability to engage with, listen to, and learn from a broad range of stakeholders, encouraging their meaningful participation to identify relevant and actionable findings for evaluation.
• Experience with data collection using qualitative and quantitative approaches, e.g., interviews, group processes, observation, surveys, electronic data files.
• Ability to manage databases, construct data files, conduct and supervise data entry, and perform data edits/cleaning.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.
• Knowledge of methods for protecting confidential data.
• Proficiency with statistical analysis programs (e.g., SAS, STATA, R).
• Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence while actively collaborating in a team environment, handle multiple projects, and experience working in deadline-driven environments.
• Technical or scientific writing experience.


Desirable Qualifications

• Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, or health sciences.
• Minimum of 2 years conducting data analyses using appropriate analytic tools.
• Experience with behavioral health systems, infectious disease, medical education, or healthcare systems.
• Familiarity with the implementation and evaluation of funded projects and evidence-based practices related to substance use disorders, infectious disease or behavioral health.
• Knowledge of and experience with designing, building, and implementing REDCap projects and Qualtrics surveys.
• Experience with human subject's research.
• Experience with preparation of grant proposals and grant submission mechanisms (e.g., Cayuse, eRA Commons).
