A pioneering company at the forefront of bioprocess engineering is scaling its commercial operations, with an innovative approach to cell culture technology. With a state-of-the-art facility in San Francisco, CA, they are driving advancements in large-scale biomanufacturing.
As they continue to evolve, they are seeking a Principal Process Engineer to lead the start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of new large-scale bioprocess equipment, including a 20,000L cell culture bioreactor, media preparation systems, CIP, and cell separation technologies. This highly hands-on role requires deep technical expertise across bioprocess instrumentation, pumps, valves, controls, and automation systems.
This position will play a key role in supporting scale-up activities, driving process improvements, and leading training initiatives for manufacturing personnel. The ideal candidate will have a passion for optimizing bioprocess systems, thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment, and be open to future expansion projects.
? Key Responsibilities:
Lead start-up, commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of newly installed commercial-scale process equipment.
Work hands-on with pumps, valves, controls, and instrumentation across bioprocess systems.
Provide technical expertise on bioprocess automation and controls, with familiarity in Rockwell systems a strong plus.
Develop and deliver training and hypercare support for manufacturing personnel.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale up new processes and integrate CAPEX investment projects.
Support ongoing process improvements at the facility to build confidence in technology ahead of potential future commercial expansion.
Engage in future large-scale projects.
Be available for routine night/weekend work as part of commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
? Industry Experience & Education:
10+ years of experience in process equipment engineering, bioprocessing, or related fields.
Extensive hands-on expertise in bioprocess instrumentation, pumps, valves, and control systems.
Strong background in cell culture bioprocessing (industrial fermentation experience considered).
Experience working in startup or scale-up environments, with a focus on commercial-scale production.
Familiarity with Rockwell automation and control systems is a plus.
Ability to work onsite in San Francisco, CA.
