JOB TITLE: Financial Aid Counselor FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT (salary) SALARY: Proposed Salary $43,888 annual/$3657.33 monthly DEPARTMENT: Financial Aid REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Enrollment Services STATUS: Full-time (37.50 hours/week) LOCATION: Chicago Pilsen and River Forest Campuses PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY: As a Financial Aid Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the educational journey of undergraduate students at the Chicago Pilsen Campus. In this crucial position, you'll manage the complete process of finalizing financial aid files and awarding scholarships, ensuring that financial resources are accessible to those who need them most. You are required to maintain office hours three times a week at the Chicago Campus and will also spend two days each week at the River Forest Campus. This position offers a unique opportunity to significantly impact students' educational experiences through dedicated guidance and support. JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Evaluate financial aid applications, complete verification processes, and address any issues with C flags for undergraduate students.
  • Develop financial aid packages for undergraduate students.
  • Provide financial aid guidance to students and families.
  • Assist in processing student loan applications including following up on incomplete submissions and advising on necessary steps to complete their application.
  • Participate in university events such as open houses, information sessions, and orientations as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: All qualifications are required unless otherwise indicated.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree from and accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, especially proficiency with financial aid management software. Experience with PowerFaids is an added advantage.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with the capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish, are preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Prior experience working in a financial aid office is highly advantageous. a plus
