MAJOR FUNCTION: The Employment Navigator reports to the lead educator or the Assistant Warden at the Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala, FL. The Employment Navigator delivers services through cell-front and/or in congregate settings. The Pre-Release Employment Navigator:
Provides in-person and virtual facilitation of workshops and training relative to employability and life skills.
Provides administration and interpretation of assessments.
Maintains and provides documentation of services delivered.
Facilitates pre-release connections with community providers and employers through face-to-face and technology-based interactions to include pre-release job search, recruitment, and placement activities.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: An Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of related work experience or a high school diploma and three (3) years of professional experience in the workforce development, social services, corrections or related field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of administrative principles and practices; knowledge of office procedures and practices; knowledge of methods of data collection; knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication; proficient computer skills in Excel and Microsoft Word software; proficient in specking effectively to small groups; ability to work independently with limited supervision; ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to utilize problem-solving techniques; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and complete work assignments with accuracy; ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with others; ability to work in a secured prison setting; ability to work with inmates; ability work within the vicinity of officials that carry guns; and ability to work with users of varying technical expertise.
